From Katowice: Auschwitz-Birkenau Skip-the-Line Guided Tour

1. From Katowice: Auschwitz-Birkenau Skip-the-Line Guided Tour

Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest of Nazi Germany’s concentration camps. Located in German-occupied southern Poland, it took its name from the nearby town of Oświęcim, situated about 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) from Katowice. The complex consisted of three main camps: Auschwitz I — the administrative centre; Auschwitz II (Birkenau) — an extermination camp; and Auschwitz III (Monowitz) — a work camp. On this guided tour of Auschwitz II-Birkenau, discover the terrifying but touching site where at least 1.1 million people were killed, 90% of them Jews from almost every European country. See the gas chambers where the vast majority were slaughtered using Zyklon B, and learn more about the Holocaust with your English-speaking guide. Hear about the most important original objects at Birkenau, and visit the permanent exhibition and original buildings on the grounds of the main camp (Auschwitz). Pay your respects and take some moments for reflection in a place laden with historic horrors.  With this tour, both skip-the-line entrance tickets and hotel pickup and drop-off in Katowice are included. However, if you are staying in a hostel, Airbnb, or any form of private residence, you will have to make your way to the meeting point at the local partner's office in the city center to begin your tour.

What people are saying about Auschwitz

A very impressive tour. You will be picked up at the agreed location and the driver speaks good English. The moment you arrive at Auschwitz, he clearly indicates where you are expected and what time. Then you walk through security and you enter a cinema. Here they have already well portrayed what it was like back then. When the film is finished, walk outside where the guide will be waiting for you. She first checks whether the headphones worked. Then the tour started in camp 1. Very clear explanation about the situation at the time. You get goosebumps when you walk around. Photos are allowed in some places. When the tour has ended in camp 1, you will have a 10-minute break, after which you will be taken to camp 2 by shuttle bus. That camp is mainly outdoors and is a very good addition to the images and stories you heard in camp 1. After the visit, you will return with the same shuttle bus, where the driver will be waiting to take you back.

This trip was well organised. We were picked up from the Meeting Point on time and driven to Auschwitz-Birkenau. We then were provided with the entrance tickets and instructions on how will the group tour be split between the two camp sites. Our driver spoke very good English. He was waiting for us to take us back to our hotel in Central Katowice when the tour came to an end. Would recommend!

The whole experience of this trip was memorable. It was such a good way to refresh your mind about the war history and our tour guide have an extensive knowledge. Driver was very kind and welcoming. Excellent organised and informative tour start to finish! Thanks a million for this experience!

Very well organized and punctual tours. The guide was super nice helping me to arrange another tour later, he looked for information for me and was very friendly. About the tour itself, impressive and impactful. Required.
