5 things to experience on a Barcelona cruise

Located on the Mediterranean coastline between the mouths of two rivers, Barcelona is well placed for shore excursions. Here are five of the best ways to take a break from the bustle of city-life.

  • Ancient ruins

    1. Ancient ruins

The Costa Brava is littered with Greek and Roman ruins, but if seeing them is a priority then set sail to Empúries. The town was abandoned long ago for being too easy to invade!

  • Scenic cliffs

    2. Scenic cliffs

Only accessible by boat, the spectacular cliffs of Sierra de Montgrí are among Costa Brava's most well-preserved natural heritage sites.

  • Rocky islands

    3. Rocky islands

Head to the Medes Archipelago marine reserve to see the old lighthouse and fort ruins among its dramatic scenery. Oh, and you'll probably spot some colorful sealife too!

  • Views of the city

    4. Views of the city

Why not see Barcelona's skyline in all its glory? Simply join a boat tour from the harbor to see the coastal landmarks of the city against the backdrop of its famous hills.

  • Sunset

    5. Sunset

If it's romance you're after, then we'd recommend booking a classic yacht to take you and that special someone out in the early evening to watch the sun set over the city.

Planning Your Visit

  • What to pack?

Remember that sailing in the Mediterranean means you'll be exposed to the elements, so bring plenty of sunscreen as well as a hat and umbrella. Check if your Barcelona tour boat operator is providing food and beverages on your cruise. Even if they are, it's best to bring extra bottled water and snacks just in case.

  • What about a river cruise?

Though Barcelona might be sandwiched between rivers, its embankments aren't as rich with the historic and architectural eye-candy you'd expect in London, Paris, or Madrid, for instance. If you're set on taking to the water, then we can't recommend the sea enough!

I was very satisfied with the service. The musicians were excellent. They also sell drinks in the catamaran which you can also pay by debit or credit card if you wish. They sent me a reminder message on when the boarding starts in WhatsApp. I got lost for a moment when I got to the port so I rang them and they gladly helped me so I got there on time.

Great tour for those who want to have a nice and nice day out. The highlight is of course the helicopter flight which "only" lasts 6-7 minutes. (but OK for the price) All in all a great day with good and courteous guides. To recommend!

I literally asked my daughter abroad to make the booking for me and within minutes I was ready to board the next available boat. Had a lovely tour although a tour guide would have been great! Martha

Highly recommended. But you need to checkin early in order to have a good slot. It will be very windy, don't forget a coat.

Amazing experience, one of the must-do's when you go to Barcelona.
