From Cefalù: Lipari and Vulcano Day Tour with Boat Trip

10. From Cefalù: Lipari and Vulcano Day Tour with Boat Trip

PROGRAMME Bus transfer from your accommodation* to the port of Capo d'Orlando. Departure at 09:15. Arrival on Lipari at 10:15. Lipari is the largest of the Seven Sisters, with the seven islands together consisting of a total population of ca. 13,000 inhabitants. The only way to arrive on the island is by boat, which provides a good first glimpse of the islands breath-taking scenery, where the stunning blue of the Mediterranean Sea contrasts beautifully against the glaring white mountains of pumice stone. Before you disembark, the captain will confirm you have +/- 2hrs to yourself. This gives you the opportunity to shop in the delightful alleys at Corso Vittorio Emanuele, or to wonder the picturesque historic centre of the island where the Acropolis is situated, and where you will also find the Castle and St. Bartholomew's Cathedral. You can learn about the origins of Lipari at the Archaeological Park and the Regional Aeolian Archaeological Museum Luigi Bernabo Brea, or take the time to discover the gorgeous landscapes of the island of Lipari by bus - we highly recommended the bus tour as it takes just 1.5 hours and departs and returns from Marina Lunga Port. Departure from Lipari at 13:15. Arrival on Vulcano at 13:30. Vulcano is famous for its natural sulphurous mud baths, caused by volcanic phenomena called fumaroles - they provide visitors an opportunity for natural, therapeutic R&R at the end of this busy day trip. A short walk away, and located in the sea a few metres off the white sandy beach, are the islands thermal hot springs, and are a once-in-a-lifetime experience with the sea bubbling before you. Further down the road lies the black beach, covered in obsidian sand - it’s easy to convince yourself to lie back and relax for an hour or so. If you are more active, you can also use your time to discover captivating landscapes while climbing the Gran Cratere (central crater) or visiting La Valle dei Mostri (the Valley of the Monsters) at the Grotta del Cavallo. Departure at 16:30. Arrival at Cefalù at 19:00. Transfer back to your pick-up point. *The pick-up point depends on where you are staying, and may be outside your hotel, or just a short walk away. The pick-up time may vary in relation to your pick-up point.

Be sure to hike up to the church, plaza and viewpoints at the top of the hill when you get to the town on Lipari island. One takes the right road off the plaza after one gets off the boat rather than the left one which takes one to a fairly uninteresting tourist street. It is quite an adventure up on top of the hill. There are also a few archaeological museums up there. However, we were happy just walking around and exploring and looking at the views over the cliffs. On the island of Volcano we just crossed the island which is about 150 m across, went to the beach on the right side of the road and rented two reclining chairs with an umbrella. They had change rooms which were nice. The water was absolutely delightful. It is definitely worth the five euros per person to rent the reclining chairs and umbrella. So the fun and excitement of exploring a very old town is complemented by a relaxing time swimming at the beach.

A highlight of our time in Ortigia. The captain and guide could not have been nicer. We sailed and saw beautiful sights and even had the opportunity to go swimming. The food and wine was an excellent end to an amazing trip. We could not more highly recommend this experience.

MUST DO while you visit Catania! It was a birthday surprise for our friend and it went fantastic. We were sipping prosecco, sunbathing and just having great time. Bruno is a really cool guy and a great skipper.

Very nice sailing trip with sunset. Bruno the skipper was very nice.
