Discover the island of Santorini in six hours with locals

9. Discover the island of Santorini in six hours with locals

Our first stop will be the village of Oia, the most famous village of Santorini on the north side of the island. At this unique place, visitors can admire the historical houses which have been built in niches inside the volcanic bedrock and the blue-roofed churches. Moreover, the adorable views from this location will make you feel relaxed and will give you the chance to take the first photos for your album. Next stop on our tour-schedule is the village of Firostefani, the “crown of Fira”, which owes its name to its elevated position. The stunning views of Fira and the volcano from the village will stay in your memory for good. We will go on for a photo shooting visit of the famous Blue Domed Church, an iconic church that has adorned the cover of so many guidebooks of Santorini. Another unforgettable experience is awaiting at Profitis Ilias, once we reach the summit of Mountain Profitis Ilias (Prophet Elijah), the highest point of Santorini at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. Here, we will explore the area of the homonymous historical monastery and take more photographs of the panoramic view from this amazing vantage point. The village of Pyrgos, which is located at the foot of Mountain Profitis Ilias, will be the first traditional village of our tour. This place offers us trademark panoramic views of both sides of Santorini, while it retains features of the Venetian rule. Moreover, the traditional Cycladic houses and pathways placed all around the old Venetian castle make Pyrgos Village a place not to be missed. Furthermore, a stop that must not be excluded from the full day private tour is Akrotiri Archaeological Site. This specific site is one of the most significant prehistoric settlements of the Aegean. Please notice that Akrotiri had once been a major city before it was covered in ash by volcanic eruptions. Luckily, the ash has preserved structures and their contents, allowing us to admire this wonder of antiquity. Afterwards, our driver – guide will be pleased to take you to the unique Red Beach just to get a glimpse of the red volcanic rocks. These rocks were created by geological formation processes that are still active. At this point of our tour it will be our pleasure to take you for a swim at the dazzling crystal clear waters of the famous Black Beach (also known as Perissa) if you wish. This seaside area actually forms the tip of the long black sand beach of Perivolos and is, without a doubt, the busiest and most remarkable beach of Santorini.

If ever there was a picture postcard place in Greece this area of Santorini is it. The first secret spot of our private tour is located at the edge of the picturesque village of Oia, in the northern part of Santorini, with commanding views over the caldera and the famous sunset. Imerovigli is probably most beautiful place in Santorini. It’s way less crowded than the famous village Oia and has some incredible photo spots too! Beside the picturesque white alleys, stair cases and bougainvilleas there are three spots you shouldn’t miss: Anastasi Orthodox Church, Skaros Rock and the hidden Theoskepasti Church. We continue our tour by going all the way to the summit of Mountain Profitis Ilias, where the homonymous monastery is located. Feel free and seize the opportunity to admire the outstanding view of the island, the caldera and the neighboring islands from the highest point of Santorini – 2.000 feet (600 meters) above sea level. In our visit to the Koutsogianopoulos Winery Museum you will enjoy a wine tasting of 5-7 local wine varieties of Santorini (wine tasting included in the price). The true Heart of Santorini is a newly discovered attraction, and this hidden gem has been getting popular! We had an amazing day kayaking with Kalliopi and Niko, who were so lovely, welcoming and friendly. Our transport collected us from our accommodation and Niko (and one of the dogs!) met us at the top of the track in the 4WD. All the equipment we needed was provided, including water and sun hats which we most appreciated. We had a coffee and were introduced to the rest of the group who would be kayaking with us. The weather was perfect! We paddled out along the coastline with Kalliopi describing the geology and folklore of the scenery around us. At lunch we stopped for a swim and snorkel in the beautiful clear waters – so many fish! Lunch was delicious (especially the spinach pie!) and Kalliopi had very kindly taken into consideration all of our family's dietary requirements. After lunch we kayaked some more, through a cave, and back to base. Finally before our transport collected us Kalliopi sent us the photos she and Niko had taken during the trip. An amazing day – thank you so much!

I loved the guides! (so patient, knowledgeable, and sweet!) They showed us more of the beauty of Santorini, and provided everything we needed for this experience! The picnic was so delicious and filling! I am so glad I got to have this experience!

My partner and I really enjoyed this kayaking experience! The views were incredible and the host was kind and knowledgable. Would highly recommend!

Fun sight, all covered. Audio needs to be updated there are places you can’t go.
