Full description
Meet your guide at Theatre Square at 3:00 PM and explore the best of Moscow underground. This tour’s duration is 90 minutes. The metro ticket is included in the price of the tour, but your guide will still explain how and where to get tickets and what the fares are. After a short introduction to the busiest metro in Europe, you will see the first line of the Moscow Metro that was open in 1935. Moving on a train from station to station, you will get off at the award-winning platforms of the 1930s.  Apart from seeing the most beautiful stations and taking photos, learn the history of Russia’s first metro system, the ideology behind the design and the modern tendencies in the development of the metro. The architectural styles will vary from art deco to neoclassicism as you switch the lines. You will also see the largest and most opulent stations of the Circle Line, decorated with mosaics, statues and stained glass.  Hear about the metro during the years of the Second World War, when it was used as a bomb shelter by thousands of Muscovites. The tour will finish at Ploschad Revolutsii Station, just across the street from where the tour started.

Alexander, our tour guide was really great! Not only he took the time to answer all of our questions, he also did it with a smile and a sense of humour, that definitely added to the whole experience. I highly recommend both tour and -most of all- our tour guide.

great guide

I made the tour with Alexander. He his an amazing guide with a lot of knowledge. I have a passion for Russia since years and I had a lot of disappointment about guide in st piter and Moscow that only know their tour by heart. But Alex was clearly more than that, he could answer all my question and it was a great pleasure having discussion with him. The tour is clearly worth his price. It was not only a tour about metro stop to take picture but a whole story behind each stop. I would highly recommend this tour with Alex and listen to him :)

Very interesting tour. Very nice guide. Moscow metro is a must to see. But without the right explanations and the focus on what to see, you miss half of it. This tour is the one to do to fully understand how and why Moscow’ metro is very different from the other metros ( NY, London, Paris,...)
