Full description
Discover the best of St Andrews on this walking tour and immerse yourself in the city's unique history and beauty in the company of a professional historian/author guide. During the tour, admire the beauty of the city's prestigious university and learn more about its history as the 'Home of Golf'. You can even see the graves of some former golfing greats in the Cathedral grounds. Listen to your guide as he explains over 1000 years of St Andrews' history, from the rise and fall of the Catholic church to the Reformation and beyond, with Kings and Queens including Mary Queen of Scots, and up to the present with Hollywood stars and royalty mingling with the town's people. In 1879, some 320 years following the disappearance of St Andrews' priceless artifacts, Councillor William Linskill had a notion that the Cathedral's great treasures were still here. On the basis of a discovery at the Palace, he formed the St Andrews Antiquarian Society and armed with nothing more than a couple of workmen with spades he made it his life's work to find it. For over 40 years your guide has been continuing Linskill’s research. On this tour, discover what he has unearthed and hear about the latest developments in his research.
