Full description
Take a tour with an expert local guide and explore the sanctuary of Delphi located in a setting of outstanding natural beauty on the lower slopes of Mount Parnassos. Learn about its importance as a cultural and religious center in Ancient Greece, as well as its role as a symbol of unity for the Hellenic world. Admire the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, where the deity chose to speak through his priestess and delivered oracles that defined the fates of kings, ordinary people, and entire nations. Learn why Delphi became the crossroads of a wide variety of cultural influences and was imitated throughout the ancient world. Visit the reconstructed Athenian Treasury and the Theater. Gain a greater understanding of the political and philosophical meaning behind the monuments and how diplomacy operated in Ancient Greece. After the tour, feel free to explore the rest of the site at your own pace. Climb the mighty Stadium and admire beautiful views of the surrounding area. Penny was extremely knowledgeable and personable. She made it a point to put what we were seeing into historical context as well as make connections with prior knowledge. We would have missed out on so much if not for taking this tour. So glad we did and would highly recommend experience and guide!!
