9. Meet the Berbers: Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains Day Trip
Your full-day trip from Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains will start with a pick-up from your hotel or Riad. First, you will drive east towards the town of Tahannaout, where you will make the first stop. Admire a panoramic view of a mud-brick Berber village on top of a hill across the Ghighaya River. Then, continue to an Argan Oil artisanal factory run by local ladies. Sample local bread, Argan oil with min tea, and learn the process of extracting this liquid gold. If your day trip coincides with a Tuesday, visit the local weekly Berber Market in Tahannout or the one in Asni that runs every Saturday.
Next, you will cross the canyons of Tibidrt with stunning views of the river and juniper forest on our way to Asni.
From here, you will continue to Imlil Village, located at the foothills of Mt.Toubkal. Upon arrival at the Village center, meet your local Berber guide for an hour-long moderate hike in Toubkal National Park past various scattered Berber settlements to a small waterfall. Then, treat yourself to a delicious cup of fresh squeezed Orange Juice while admiring the views before you continue to Aroumd village.
Next, a well deserved three-course lunch home-made made lunch will be served at a Berber house.
In the mid-afternoon, Descend back to Imlil center, where you will meet your driver. Continue to Kik Plateau across green valleys to Agafay Desert, then get ready for a 30-minute camel ride across the stone desert.
Finally, you will drive towards the Lalla Takerkoust lake, which serves as a water reservoir supplying Marrakech.
Your Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains Day trip from Marrakech will end with a drop off at your hotel or pre-set drop off points in the Medina.
