Kakopetria and Agios Nicolaos tis Stegis: Guided Tour

1. Kakopetria and Agios Nicolaos tis Stegis: Guided Tour

Visit an 11th century UNESCO World Heritage site at Agios Nicolaos tis Stegis painted church, a former monastery where only the chapel survives. The frescoes are superb, dating from the 11th century onward.  Meander inside the picturesque old part of Kakopetria village - visit old olive press, an old church and watermill. Take a short walk along a shaded stream opposite the old part of Kakopetria village. Cyprus coffee on a coffee shop veranda overlooking the stream is highly recommended, as is a fresh trout meal at a nearby restaurant. Enjoy a customisable route, choosing between Panagia tis Asinou Unesco World Heritage church and of Agios Nicolaos tis Stegis; having a meal in Kakopetria or taking an easy 7 kilometer Artemis walk on the top of Cyprus, or even Caledonia walking trail above Platres village.

Nicosia: Kakopetria and Pelendri Day Tour

2. Nicosia: Kakopetria and Pelendri Day Tour

Head out to the charming little villages of Kakopetria Pelendri in the Troodos Mountains on this day tour from Nicosia. Enjoy the scenery, historical buildings, and an optional winery tour. Visit the popular summer vacation spot of Kakopetria, known for its charm and the breathtaking pine forest scenery of the Solea Valley. Explore the old quarter of the village, with its narrow, stone-paved alleys. Move on to nearby Pelendri village and its impressive 14th-century Church of the Holy Cross. Consider an optional visit to a local winery to complete your sampling of life in the mountain villages of Cyprus.

Simply amazing

Phivos was so knowledgeable about the country’s history, attractions and the nature, and is really passionate about giving travelers a great experience of Cyprus. The trip was so much more than what it says and what the pictures show on the website, the 11th/12th/13th-century UNESCO churches, the ‘bad-stone’ village and more, tell the living history of Cyprus. I can’t recommend this trip enough to people who are interested in exploring the mountainous, hidden-gem side of the island.
