From Valencia: Private Albufera Van Tour with Boat Ride

9. From Valencia: Private Albufera Van Tour with Boat Ride

Leave the hustle and bustle of Valencia behind on a private van trip to the Albufera Natural Park and lagoon — the birthplace of paella. Discover the natural wonders of the Albufera and learn about the park's rich biodiversity from your local guide. Glide on the clear lagoon on a relaxing boat trip. Meet your driver/guide in Valencia and sit back and relax on the short 10-kilometer ride to the Natural Park. Surrounded by rice fields, forests, and home to the largest lake in Spain, the Albufera displays Spain's nature in its purest form. Experience the park's abundant birdlife and natural environment in the best way possible: on a boat ride. Hop into a traditional handmade boat called an albuferenc and glide over the calm waters of the lagoon. Keep a look out for the 300 different species of birds that take refuge around the 2,800-hectare freshwater lagoon. In winter, you'll likely see bright flamingos here, as this is where they spend the colder months. The Albufera is recognized as one of the wetlands of international importance, Ramsar, and as a Special Protection Area for Birds, so you will undoubtedly come across many bird species. After your boat ride, head to the Racó de l'Olla Interpretation Center. Here, learn more about the park's birdlife and enjoy looking out for it from its observatories and lookout tower with panoramic views of the area. Marvel at the natural landscape around you: marshes and rice fields that turn bright green in summer, blue in winter when the water floods the fields, and brown when the land is uncovered. Over in the strip that separates the park from the sea there is a unique ecosystem of natural dunes and pine forests.

We ate a wonderful paella at El Forcat before meeting our guide for our 15 minute drive to Albufera. Now we were prepared to visit the birthplace of paella. We learned about how and why rice was grown here and we learned about the history of fishing, the barracas and the geography of the area. We got lucky to have a very beautiful and interesting sunset on a day that was mostly cloudy. Marcelle was enthusiastic to share everything with us. We had a very cohesive group of only 5 travelers and we have stayed in touch since that day. Thank you Marcelle :-)

Such a great tour!! Raffa and Nicole are wonderful, attentive guides. You can tell that they enjoy their work in the national park and on the tours. The information about the national park (history, structure, work in the park and the protection of the park) was very interesting and worth knowing. The other stops, the boat tour and the beach were incredibly great and beautiful. Overall highly recommended. We would do it again. :)

Amazing experience!! Pickup was on time and our guides were very knowledgeable. The national park is very interesting and the boat tour on the lake as well. The Tapas on the beach was very well prepared!!

Spectacular experience, especially with the guide Ferrán and the driver Franc. If we return to Valencia we will not hesitate to hire our excursions with them again
