Full description
Visit Amsterdam Museum and explore thousands of objects and works of art that tell the story of Amsterdam, taking you on a journey through the stories of its residents and neighborhoods, from the early Middle Ages to the Amsterdam we know today. Start your visit with the Amsterdam DNA exhibition, an introduction to the city and its history. Then, discover Refresh Amsterdam (until July 25, 2021), which shows how 25 contemporary artists explore their relationship with the city. The Little Orphanage (Het Kleine Weeshuis) is especially for children. Here, the history of the building comes to life as you learn about how tens of thousands of Amsterdam orphans lived, learned, and played in the past. This interactive exhibition enables kids and their parents to see what life must have been like in a 17th-century orphanage Next, check out the Golden Coach, which is on display again after a five-year restoration. The Golden Coach is displayed in a glass enclosure in the large courtyard of the museum. In the surrounding buildings, hundreds of paintings, orangery, garments, cartoons, photographs, and moving images provide a multifaceted picture of the history and use of the Golden Coach (on display until February 27, 2022).

It was very nice as a fun activity, but not as a learning activity

I actually give two reviews: it was meticulous, it worked and it was fun. At the same time as I go to the little orphanage with the grandchildren I don't want to hear about bugs, but about orphans. The same applies to the rest of the museum. In another five years all museums will be the same, because they all try to fascinate you interactively and therefore it is all about the same "relevant" themes: nature, openness, free sex, strangers, ...

Very interesting historic museum, missed a bit a historic overview

The museum had a lot of good info about key periods of Amsterdam's history. We saw it as a start to our visit to enjoy better the city, but focus on selected periods for instance meant you heard about the Spanish being kicked out - but never when they came, which was a bit confusing.
