Full description

During the late Bronze Age, the city of Mycenae played an important role in ancient Greece. This full-day trip from Athens provides the opportunity for you to explore this treasure of the ancient world. Traveling by air-conditioned bus, you’ll make a brief stop at the Corinth Canal, a 3.9-mile engineering wonder connecting the Gulf of Corinth with the Aegean Sea. Mycenae is the historical setting for much of ancient Greek literature, including the works of the poet Homer. Tour the archeological site, home to the Lionesses Gate and the tomb of King Agamemnon. After a relaxing lunch, you’ll continue on the drive, making a short stop in Nauplia, the first capital of modern Greece and home to the fortress of Palamidi. The final stop of the tour is the city of Epidaurus, home to the World Heritage-listed ancient theater and believed by ancient Greeks to be the birthplace of Apollo’s son Asklepios. The theater at Epidaurus is perhaps the best-preserved theater of ancient Greece and is still used today because of its amazing acoustics.

Everything was very pleasant and enjoyable. The guide was very knowledgeable. The only slight minus was the pickup/change-of-busses en route, which was a bit chaotic and left to chance. But hey, this is is Greece If I were to do it again I'd skip the lunch which would have given me time for sightseeing in Nafplio, a very charming town.

A great day out! Mycenae and Epidaurus were as spectacular as hoped, and Napflio was a lovely town. Although the start and return were a bit later than expected, we got long enough in each location. The guide was very good, particularly bringing the Classical mythology to life, and the coach was comfortable. I was glad we didn't choose the lunch option, as there are lots of options in Napflio and it's nice to have time to wander around.

This tour was what I had imagined and more. Everything was seamless. As a big fan of Bronze Age archaeology, I found Mycenae most awe-inspiring and its location is par excellence. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. The bus was very nice and comfortable. The included lunch was simple and tasty. My only complaint is that I felt a little rushed from one place to the next, but also I did a lot of filming on my own for my YouTube channel Tiny Epics History, so I could have easily stayed at Mycenae an hour longer for example. Oh, and the guide was difficult to hear at times in the bus from the back. Perhaps just a louder mic would have done the trick. That said, I felt this tour was a very good value for the money and it packs A LOT into a short time. It feels like a marathon of impressions so if you’re up for that then don’t miss out and book your tour now!
