Full description

This history-packed excursion from Madrid tours two of Spain's oldest cities in one day trip. Journey past Segovia's Roman Aqueduct, the Alcazar de Segovia and Avila's 11th century walls with a knowledgeable guide on this big day out.

Board the bus for Avila, an ancient city surrounded by spectacular city walls. One of the last walled cities in Europe, wander the old quarters to discover Romanesque churches, Gothic palaces, and a 12th century Gothic cathedral.

Avila is famous as the birthplace of Saint Teresa, one of the most influential Catholic saints. Your guide will lead you past the exterior of the Avila Cathedral, the Romanesque Basilica of San Vicente, through Plaza Mayor and to the Convent of Saint Teresa.

Before lunch the bus will arrive at Segovia. When booking there is the option to add a three-course lunch at a traditional Segovian restaurant, where you can taste typical local dishes and desserts.

After lunch, meet your guide again to tour Segovia's historical monuments. Learn about the magnificent Roman Aqueduct, explore the elegant cathedral and journey up to the Alcazar.

Considered one of the most spectacular castles in Spain, the ancient Alcazar of Segovia is both shaped like the bow of a ship and likened to Cinderella's Castle. Once finished at the fortress, the bus will return to Madrid.

Maite was a superb guide, very knowledgeable and super friendly. Swift bus ride, lots of incredible views, and lots of things to learn. Thanks. I would have wished that the company had a restroom for clients. It is outrageous that for a day trip they would not have facilities at their offices for their clients.

Fernando is the best guide I had so far. Prepared nice and efficient. Is not easy to meet deadlines with 44 people. I didn’t give 5 star for the Avila part of the day tour. Is missing a view point to see the main attraction of the city the, the walls. I had a brilliant day and I learnt a lot. Thank you.

Generally speaking, I would recommend the trip. The tour guide was very professional and informative. Most of our group was Spanish speaking, so I was able to hear all the historic info in Spanish, then again in English in case I missed anything. As for transportation, except for the somewhat uncomfortable bus seats, the trip was fine, if a bit short. The description for the excursion said 9 hours, but we returned sooner than that by almost an hour. There were a couple of moments I felt I was being rushed. For lunch, I purchased the plan with a typical, I assumed Spanish, lunch. The food was good but I was very disappointed that the "typical lunch" included an American grade school cafeteria, canned mixed fruit cup. When I asked if it was a typical dessert of the city, of course the waitress said no. I traveled across the ocean to experience new cultural things, including food. If I want typical American cafeteria food, I could have stayed state side and gone to the store for a can.
