Full description
Not keen on the swarming crowds at Bali's main temples? Visit temples that are just as beautiful off the beaten track, meaning fewer tourists, more charm, and the tranquility you seek on this magical island.  Begin at the Kerta Gosa Pavilion in Klung Kung. The intact justice court building formerly used by the high king of Bali will give you some idea of the power and grandeur of the Balinese monarchs before the Dutch arrived. Goa Lawah Temple is up next. Also known as Bat Cave, its complex is built over a hilly outcrop home to thousands of bats and a giant snake king per local legend. Make a stop at Bukit Jambul, known for its panoramic views of the rice terraces. As you must be peckish by now, your guide will slow the pace down for a lunch overlooking Mt. Agung.  Continue your tour to Besakih Temple, Bali's thousand-year-old Mother Temple, perched 1,000 meters high on the southwestern slopes of Mount Agung. It is meant to be the island's largest holy site divided into three main complexes, each dedicated to the Hindu trinity. The last of the temples, Kehen Temple, is a multi-level temple on a hill home to a great Banyan Tree. An untouched gem, it requires a bit of a hike to get to the well-preserved natural sanctuary. Finally, the trip ends with a visit to Penglipuran Traditional Village, a traditional countryside community in the highlands.

This trip is packed with visiting many temples, but as each of them is located in different scenery, it is very interesting. The traditional village, however, was full of tourists from Java. To be honest, I have never seen so many tourist in any other place in Bali during my January stay. However, the village is very lovely and definetely worth visiting.

This experience was absolutely outstanding, but not why you would think. Yes, the tour is pretty cool and the places you get to see are stunning, but what made this tour special was my AMAZING tour guide Sarbuja. For some reason, no one else booked this tour, so I got a private tour with Sarbuja and let me tell you, he went above and beyond to make it special. He accommodated every single request I did, including stops for coffee and bathroom (he even showed me his favorite coffee shop in the village) and an absolutely amazing lunch in a really local restaurant with no tourists but me. He also bought me the best corn on the cob of my life (and I'm Mexican) and showed me his family's temple, which was an extremely nice touch. We ended by stopping by in a rice terrace, with some amazing views and did a small walk. I enjoyed every single conversation I had with him, and he taught me a lot about Balines culture and religion. If you're planning on taking this tour, request Sarbuja!! 10/10

The weather wasn’t on our side the whole day, however thanks to the local Guide, Mr.Guzty we adapted the visits to the temples according to the rain. As on the previous day, Mr Guzty was again full of knowledge and professionalism and made the day a great experience. When I was charged 300.000 Rp= 20€ for so called blessing “ donation” which turned in a fix fee for a few drops of “ holy water” Mr Guzty stepped in to express my disapproval( the money were gone already in the temple as our guide was not allowed to escort me). A 60.000 Rp fee was paid already as admission fee and a “ donation “ should not be a fix rip off fee of 300.000 ( 20€) at that Mother Temple. Thanks, Mr Guzty for protecting your customers ! The money were gone as “ donation “ however Mr Guzty spoke to local temple staff above my dissatisfaction and about not being allowed inside to protect his customers. Thank you Mr Guzty for moral support!
