Bilbao: Pinchos and Wine Tasting Tour with Local Guide

7. Bilbao: Pinchos and Wine Tasting Tour with Local Guide

Our pintxo discovery experience begins at Ribera Market, the largest covered food market in Europe and where Michelin star bosses and ordinary citizens stock up on some of the best food the city has to offer. We want you to understand the importance of food in how we relate to each other and the special little tricks to doing it like a local. Then it's time to dive into the old town and its hidden secrets, so our first stop would be one of the classic bars where the "txikiteros", the local wine drinkers, sing songs as they drink. If we are lucky, we have the option to share with them a wine and a classic aperitif discussing the traditions and symbols of the Basque Country. Next, we will go to the emblematic Plaza Nueva, to taste 2 pintxos and learn about the local Basque wine: Txakoli in one of its local bars. Once we have visited the old town, we will cross the river to enter the Ensanche, the economic center of the city. We will visit a very historic bar and we will have the opportunity to taste Rioja wines, as well as pintxos that mix the most advanced cuisine with the most traditional flavors of local products. Your tour ends here, where you will not only be filled with delicious pintxos, but also gain a new insight into the local culture and traditions. And most importantly, you will feel like an authentic Bilbao.

8. Bilbao: Guided Group Tour with Tapas and Drinks Included

The gastronomy in the Basque Country is known for its quality all over the world, although we know that nowadays internet overwhelms us with information, and get to the appropriate place to taste the best recipes and products can be a matter of luck. That’s why we designed a tasting menu of “pintxos” and pairing with local wines, to guarantee that you enjoy of the best quality. Our local guides will take you into a culinary trip by the gastronomical traditions that make us stand out, a cuisine focused on the quality products and the know-how that gave the success to the Basque chefs, from the bars to the Michelin-starred restaurants. In Bilbao stands out the cuisine rooted to tradition and in San Sebastián a more creative cuisine, both of them a delight for the five senses. Besides tasting with us the best gastronomy and giving you personalized suggestions following your preferences, we have some surprises for you… Come with us and discover them! What are the “pintxos”? They are the most popular miniature cuisine in the Basque Country. This name comes from the verb “pinchar” (prick) in Spanish, but in the Basque Language we write it with “tx” instead of “ch”. That’s because originally we pricked with a toothpick the product or tiny dish upon a basis of bread. But nowadays the cuisine evolved and there are just some pintxos that looks this way. Nowadays we find a world of flavours in small size… from a simple quality product to a complex cooking. When we eat pintxos we take one or two of them and we do bar hopping to taste the best pintxos in every bar. That’s how we will do it in the tour!

What people are saying about Basque Country

Very relaxed guide who knows how to convey his enthusiasm well. He has a lot of knowledge of art, culture, history of the city and social projects. The tour is very diverse: street art, buildings and cultural activities. He speaks English very good. The bike ride is at a pleasant pace and takes you to parts of the city that you might not otherwise visit.

Javier was my guide for the day. He grew up here and shared so much history and knowledge about both Bilbao, the museum history. The exterior and many important pieces in the inside of the museum. Well worth your time to have Javier at your side Vs the audio tour is my perspective. He was absolutely pleasant and I highly recommend him specifically!

Huge thanks to Javiar whose knowledge and experience as a local, as well as his art knowledge of key works at the Guggenheim Bilbao, made our experience so special. Love Bilbao as a city and the museum is a huge bonus.

Roberto was fantastic :) He took us to places we would not have picked ourselves and they were awesome. Great food, good vine and marianito and the best guide. Highly recommended

Our visit was outstanding with Gara. She was very knowledgeable about the Guggenheim museum inside and outside. We truly enjoyed our visit.
