Full description

The Berlengas archipelago is situated 16km west of Peniche, a powerful granite block which belongs to the parish of St. Peter, in the Peniche municipality. The archipelago is a protected area that includes various nature reserves and is considered a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2011. Depart from the harbor of Peniche and enjoy a 30-minute ferry ride along the turquoise sea waters. Arrive at the Berlengas harbor from where you will be able to freely explore the archipelago. Start with a visit to the São João Baptista fort built in the 17th-century. This little fort is one of the most visually striking buildings in Portugal. After this, go for a swim at Praia do Carreiro do Mosteiro, the only beach that is accessible and safe to swim from. Next, find the café and restaurant on the island before taking the ferry back to Peniche

It is well worth visiting the islands, highly recommended! We had not hired the excursion to the caves, although we could do it on the fly, but just in case, take it too. Wearing diving goggles to be able to see in the crystal clear waters is highly recommended, although the water is cold so you can't stand it for long.

The overall experience and the catamaran trip was good. Not recommended if you get seasick easily. They also offer you a glass-bottom boat ride to see some caves. Actually the glass bottom is a window on the floor of the boat, you can hardly see fish and the bottom that you see is not very interesting. Yes, it is worth doing it to tour the island from the sea, very beautiful views. The rest of the correct experience, as expected.
