Full description
Relax with a trip on which you are guaranteed to see dolphins, turtles, or whales (when in-season December-April). If not, you can come back for free on same-value or lesser-value trips. Hop aboard this terrific snorkel power catamaran, with ample seating and shade. Enjoy the coastal sights and a refreshing swim and snorkel. In-water assistance from expert crew is included. A picnic lunch, soda, juice, and water will be served. Hawaii is known as one of the best places in the world to go whale watching, (when in-season December-April) as the humpback whales migrate from Alaska to the warm waters surrounding the Hawaiian Islands to give birth. Learn about the whales' unique behavior and why their long journey is so important as you watch them fluke, spy hop, spout, and breach out of the water. You should wear your swimsuit and bring a light jacket, sunscreen, towel, and camera.

Directions to Kawaihae Harbor-South: When heading north on route 270, look for a green gate enclosing a port complex. Take the very first left into the green gate, following the sign for gate 1. Take an immediate left at the sign for gate 13. Follow the paved road over several speed bumps until the road ends at a gravel parking lot overlooking a dock. Makai will be the first boat on your left when you walk down the ramp. Look for a grey-and-black raft-style vessel. The vessel is homeported at the far end of the dock, at slip S-01, but will most often board from the loading area near the front of the boat ramp.

First trip was a waste of a beautiful vacation day

First trip, the water was too choppy to snorkel or see aquatic life. The aluminum boat was sparse & depressing. Lunch was a soda & plastic wrapped sandwich. The 2 women crew was pleasant but as far as delivering a festive event - they phoned it in. 1 woman drove while the other spent the time texting. She could have at least looked for dolphins. I feel bad bashing this trip but frankly others should be warned about wasting their vacation day & money for such a drab disappointment. The driver did remind us of their guarantee - if you don't snorkel or see dolphins you get a free "do over". Next day we cancelled our plans & tried the do over trip. Immense difference. The large sailboat/catamaran was beautiful & comfortable. The 4 person crew was lively, friendly, fun, informative & attentative. Lunch was an attractive arrangement of coldcuts, breads, cheeses, fruits, snacks, soda, juice & mixed drinks. Enjoyable music played while we mingled. The snorkelling and dolphins were great.
