Full description

Explore the unique travertine terraces of Pamukkale (literally “Cotton Castles” in Turkish), and enjoy a full-day trip to one of Turkey’s most popular attractions.

Depart Bodrum and transfer by air-conditioned coach to Pamukkale, known as the “8th Wonder of the World” to those in the know. Explore the natural landscape of limpid pools, hot springs, and travertine, terraces of carbonate minerals left by flowing water.

Inscribed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1988, Pamukkale attracts some 2 million visitors every year. Get a view of the terraces from the hills on the opposite side of the valley in the town of Denizli.

Then, go to the ruins of the ancient Greek-Roman city of Hierapolis, built on top of the “Cotton Castles” in the 2nd century BC. See the remains of the Roman amphitheater, and visit the former Turkish Bath, now converted into an archaeological museum.

Discover where Cleopatra used to swim, and the monumental tomb of the Christian apostle St. Philippe. Marvel at the Necropolis of Anatolia, filled with sarcophagi, most notably that of Marcus Aurelius Ammianos.

Hierapolis & Pamukkale are gorgeous! The pick-up at our hotel was 1 hour late compared to what we had been told, waiting from 5:15 am to 6:15 am for nothing is slowing down! As for the rest, it was just a negative point for the visit to Onyx and the leather store, but in general; very nice day!

The site is totally worth to visit: I don't think there is anywhere in the world that looks like the "cotton castle", and the archaeological site of hierapolis is so well preseved!! However the place is immense, hot and crowded with turists. Ideally it would be better if you go in a cold season (the pools would be full of water and the lack of shades in the ruins wouldn't bother you), stay in pamuukkale over night, visit the pools early morning (the dawn there must be amazing), and take the whole day to visit the ancient city. What I'm saying that this excursion is better than nothing; however it takes almost 4 hour drive from bodrum and you only stay there 3hrs that are NOT enough. You feel rushed the whole time. Moreover the lunch wasn't the best and the stops at the leather and stones industries were interesting but not what you paid for considering the time restraint. However very comfy coach and nice guide. They will leave you to visit the site alone at your own pace.

Expect a great experience. Certainly very short and very energy-intensive, you have for everything and for everything 2h30 top time to visit the remains - Cleopatra's swimming pool if you opt for this option at around 8€ extra which I recommend but be careful of the rocks and especially pamukkale with its cotton fields!! The French guides speak French and are friendly. A very long trip there and back - if you're lucky enough that your bus doesn't break down, which is almost a habit in Turkey :) Count on a 5-hour outward journey and the same for the return. The only thing we regret is the short time spent on site but no other choice. I recommend !!
