Full description
Begin your walking tour in Bratislava by meeting your guide at 12:00 PM in front of the main entrance of the Park Inn Danube Hotel. Listen to a short, basic introduction about Bratislava and Slovakia. The guide will shed light on the history of one of the youngest capital cities and states of Europe. Hear about the ancient history of Slovakia, when the old Slavs, the predecessor of modern Slovaks, inhabited Slovakia and created the Great Moravia Empire.  Your guide will share legends from the time when Bratislava was the capital city of the Hungarian Kingdom and Hungarian kings and queens were crowned there. The story continues to the time of Czechoslovakia. Hear about the dark times during Slovak communism and also about the hope which brought upon the Velvet Revolution, eventually leading to Slovakia's 2004 membership in the European Union.  Discover the Opera House and the House of Reduta as you continue to the Main Square, passing by Old Town Hall. On Franciscan Square, see the oldest building in Bratislava, the Franciscan Church. Head onto Biela Street and Michalska Street to Michael's Gate. Pass by historical buildings and palaces on Venturska Street and Panska Street. Your tour ends at St. Martin's Cathedral.

While the tour was concise and brief, we felt it was structured and presented in way that made it difficult to follow when one is not familiar with Slovak and Austrian-Hungarian history. Lots of names, years, and wars where mentioned, without putting them into context. I would have preferred less figures, more human stories.

Very good and informative tour. The guide was very well prepared and was also able to answer additional questions about the city. The tour was supposed to last an hour, but it only ended after about 90 minutes. This was not a disadvantage. It was a relaxed stroll through the old town of Bratislava with lots of information about the city and the people who live there. Thanks!!!

We really liked the tour in Bratislava with the guide Maria! We learned a lot of interesting things from the past and the present, the tour lasted longer than planned. Maria, a very responsive person, having learned that I am sick, helped to buy medicine at the pharmacy. Thank you Maria! I recommend this excursion to visit!
