Budapest: Adventure Caving Tour with Guide

2. Budapest: Adventure Caving Tour with Guide

Experience the natural splendors of the Danube-Ipoly National Park, and climb and crawl your way through Hungary’s longest cave system on a half-day caving expedition. No prior experience of caving is needed to get the most out of this adventure. Famous for its hot springs, Budapest is visited by many people who want to experience the thermal baths. But only a few know that the hot water rushing up from deep underground created something even more extraordinary. In the limestone mountains under Budapest, the heated water formed a huge cave system that is thought to be more than 200 kilometers long. The longest cave of Budapest is the 32 kilometers long Pál-völgyi-Mátyás-hegyi cave system in the Duna-Ipoly National Park. It’s a multi-level labyrinth system where most of the chambers lie under the residential districts of Budapest. The scheduled cave tours are guided by qualified caving guides. During the adventure, you will climb on walls and crawl through narrow passages. Marvel at the natural parts of the cave under the supervision of a professional caving guide (all guides are qualified members of the Hungarian Caving Association). Enjoy the perfect activity for groups, families, or solo travelers looking to make some new friends. Bond through an interactive adventure, where cooperation can definitely make your way easier.

Follow guides from the Hungarian Caving Association and get access to some parts of the caves that most tourists can’t enter.  Go 500 meters into the two caves, which feature an unusual up-welling of warm, mineral-rich water. Learn why the Szemlő-hegyi Cave is referred to as the underground flower garden of Budapest and see its unique rock formations. Explore the interactive exhibition and educational trail.  Continue to the Pál-völgyi Cave and marvel at Hungary's longest cave system, around 32 kilometers. Find stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations, and glittering calcite crystals.  Experience the famous Theater Hall, renowned as an echo chamber with impressive acoustics. Finish your tour with a peek at the quarry from one of the caves' many hidden exits.

I had a brilliant time exploring the caves with our very professional and charismatic guide. I expected to be doing a fair bit of climbing and squeezing through holes, but had no idea just how tight some of the spaces would be. Towards the end i was definitely feeling the fatigue, and I like to think of myself as quite an active and fit person. Needless to say, the following day my body (especially my upper body) was very sore! I'd definitely recommend this to someone who is up for a challenge, but certainly not someone who is fearful of small spaces - I can't emphasise this enough :)

we used public transportation for free which was great. it's impossible to do everything that's included in the card so we had to be selective, we used the castle bus, went to the tower and the. to one of the castle museums which was very impressive. we also went to a photography museum and then ran out of time to do more things! great value for money

Peter our guide was great. It was very interesting to learn about the history of these caves. Would recommend to anyone coming to Budapest! Hope the caving industry continues!

I really enjoyed this. Our guide was great and very funny. He went at our pace and said it was our tour. We had a small group of just 6 people. I would thoroughly recommend.

Highlight of my trip! Got an opportunity to experience Budapest from a different level The guide was excellent - knowledgeable, helpful and most importantly funny!
