Danube Bend: Full-Day Hiking Tour from Budapest

1. Danube Bend: Full-Day Hiking Tour from Budapest

Embark on a full-day, guided hike just outside of Budapest through the Danube Bend, including hotel pickup and drop-off via an air conditioned and comfortable van. A memorable day for lovers of nature and the outdoors awaits. Spend the day in the volcanic Visegradi Hills, where the memory of the old volcano still pervades. The volcano is no longer active, so there remains no danger. The starting point of the hike is at a tiny, romantic village on the coast of the Danube, called Dömös. Begin with the steepest climb of the day while you're still feeling fresh. After the climb, you'll find yourself on a ridge that offers beautiful panoramic views over the river and surrounding mountains. As you look around, check out the huge volcanic rocks that were left behind after the ancient eruption. After a few hundred yards more, climb to Predikaloszek, the summit with some of the best views in Hungary. This place is very famous among locals and visited the whole year through by nature-lovers. Stop for a snack at the lookout and take in the amazing scenery. After refueling, a nice and long downhill trek is waiting for you through a wild and untouched valley. During the descent, observe the power of water; see how it created ravines in the soil of the forest. Before starting your climb in the canyon, refill your bottles with clear spring water from water reservoirs. The Ram Canyon is a great adventure for all ages, boasting a nice cool climate, great depth, and waterfalls to climb with the help of ladders and rails. Head back toward the starting point filled with positive energy and unforgettable experiences. The whole hike is just over 11 miles; the trip is recommended for experienced hikes, but manageable for anyone who is in good physical condition.

We had a great time on the Danube Bend hike. This is a really interesting walk through varying terrain where you can see beautiful views, walk through a peaceful forest, through a gorge and even up some waterfalls! Gyuri is the most excellent guide; he is punctual, knowledgeable and safe and he knows lots of interesting things about the nature and geology of the area and he is just a really nice guy to chat to as we walked. He even took photos for us on the way round and shared them with us afterwards, which is such a lovely memento. I would recommend that you are moderately fit and ok to walk on uneven and very steep ground as it was challenging in places, but that is what made it even more enjoyable and we had a great sense of achievement afterwards. It was the best day of our whole vacation, I cannot recommend this trip highly enough.

An absolute joy from beginning to end. Definitely the highlight of our Budapest trip. Not only was the hike full of breathtaking panoramic views but also fascinating historic points of interest. Although the hike and its surroundings were stunning, what really made the walk was the knowledge and enthusiasm of Laszlo. Laszlo had vast knowledge of the natural area, and would interject with short interesting anecdotes and facts. We also stopped for lunch, which was a delight itself, and carried on up to several panoramic viewing towers. Lazslo also took some great photos of us throughout the hike, which he emailed to us later that evening. If you only have a few days to spend in Budapest, make sure you book a day with Laszlo. You will not regret it.

From our personal experience, this is one of the best ways to cover Budapest as you get most places to visit in a day at least from the outside. Alex was great and also had enough knowledge about places. Most importantly he was speaking in English which was a relief. I recommend this 100% if you are on two days stay in Budapest.

Our driver was super friendly and very knowledgeable. He discussed where we wanted to go before setting off, just to make sure we weren’t going somewhere we’d already seen. Arranging pick up/drop off was nice and straightforward as well. We had a fab tuk tuk tour of the city and would highly recommend.

Super mooie wandelroute, met veel uitdagende klimmetjes en mooie uitzichten. Gyuri is een erg vriendelijke kerel!
