Full description

Burmester has long been recognized for its Port wines and Douro DOC (Denominação de Origem Controlada).

Its history started long ago in London in 1730, when Henry Burmester joined with John Nash to create Burmester, Nash & Co. and from Vila Nova de Gaia they started exporting Port wines all around Europe.

Over the years, Burmester has triumphed from generation to generation, demonstrating its inherent character and determination. Character is the holistic principle of the brand, and of its wines.

Arrive at the Burmester winery for an unforgettable experience. You will visit the Burmester Cellars, located next to the beautiful Luiz I bridge, with an expert guide.

Learn about Port wines and the Douro DOC production process, and taste different port wines.

The commentary associated with the cellar tour was rather difficult to hear, even though our guides’ spoken English was very good indeed. What was clearly required was a bluetooth sound system so that the speaker’s voice could be amplified and widened in terms of scope. The port wine tasting experience we had, with 3-wines + cheese + chocolate was excellent. All in all a one off experience port tasting on the Duoro!

The tour is located in a little cave like building g, tucked under the bridge- the tour is just under an hour but so informative and you learn a lot. You then have a lovely tasting- we had the pairings and it was lovely, it also gave us a chance to chat to others in our group and make friends

I really enjoyed this tour. As it's a tricky time of year and I was short on time, I booked the morning tour and ended up having a private tour. My guide was awesome and it allowed us to chat on many different topics. The cellar itself has interesting history and while it wasn't set up in the same way as some other cellar tours (i.e. informational placards on the walls, etc)- I still appreciated the environment as it was. For me, I loved the tastings I had and they were my favorite of the cellars I visited and if you can splurge a bit more for the chocolate and cheese pairing, I think it's worth it!
