Full description

Dive into Mayan culture on a guided day trip with optional hotel transfers from Cancún or Riviera Maya to Chichén Itzá, named one of the New 7 Wonders of the World for being one of the world's best-preserved ancient cities. Enjoy a Mexican buffet and tequila tasting, and stop at Valladolid and a cenote. Your first stop will be at a Mayan community restaurant for breakfast with coffee and bread. Take this time to wake up and then go to stock up on souvenirs. Then, at Chichén Itzá, follow the guide while learning all about the most important buildings. From the awe-inspiring Pyramid of Kukulcan to the ruins that once housed tens of thousands of Mayans, the Pyramid of El Castillo or El Caracol, this visit is filled with rarely heard stories, incredible details, and stunning photo opportunities. Discover why the huge city played such an important role from the Late Classic period (600 AD) into the early part of the Post Classic period (1200 AD), and why it remained a huge center of pilgrimage. At this point, the fun is just getting started as no visit to the area would be complete without a stop by a cenote, a refreshing, enchanting underground sinkhole, sacred to the Mayan people. Then, enjoy a Mexican buffet lunch and a tequila-tasting experience. Before returning to your starting point, stop by the charming town of Valladolid, famed for the ornate, 16th-century Convent of San Bernardino of Siena and the baroque San Gervasio Cathedral. Enjoy a quick panoramic visit to this magical place.

Only reason it’s not a 5/5 is because we did not get a tequila tasting and we paid for the VIP but there was no difference in experience for the higher price. Besides that, Frank, our guide, and our driver, Luna, were excellent! Frank gave us a lot of information about the Mayans and we learned a lot! We even got our own Mayan birth chart. Luna was an excellent driver that made we got back safe. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.

This tour was an unbelievely thorough insight into Mayan culture, from BC to current day. You have to wake up early and go through a long coach journey (use the bathroom before the coach), but it is worth it as you arrive at chichen itza before the masses. Our tour guide, Rodrigo Cat, was a fantastic guide. He was organised, knowledgeable and incredibly good at English considering it was his third language. After Chichen we went to a smaller set of Mayan ruins, and were spoke to about them in Mayan by some people who lived nearby. For lunch you are served a traditional buffet and you're given time to browse shops full of Maya souvenirs. After this you swim in a centre before making the trip back. Bring money for tips, but you will be happy to give them out as this is as detailed, authentic and good value a tour as you can buy.

Took a long time to depart from our meeting point, I think the payment for Chichen-Itzá should be taken in the bus. Good amount at the archeological area but not much at the cenote and it was packed, maybe another one less busy? Quite annoying to have EVERYONE asking for tips for nothing. What do we pay £30/pp in a 50 people bus then? Someone takes your order? Tip. Someone serves you? Tip. Someone open the door? Tip. It becomes really annoying. Regarding our guide, she was fantastic. Alexa is funny, happy, she helps in everything she can and have good tips.
