Cancun: Aquaworld Scuba Diving School

4. Cancun: Aquaworld Scuba Diving School

The best way to explore the underwater world of Cancun is, no doubt, by scuba diving. Learn to dive for the first time with a professional diver and discover the wonderful sea life of the Mexican Caribbean. Choose between visiting the colorful Manchones Reef or the mysterious Underwater Museum of Art, also known as MUSA. Both diving locations are home to hundreds of tropical fish, corals, starfish, turtles, and rays. Manchones is a shallow reef located close to Isla Mujeres (Spanish for Island of Women). It’s very common to see turtles here as well as lots of other colorful reef fish and sea life. The Underwater Museum of Art (MUSA) consists of two main locations. The deeper section is great for diving while the shallower part is great for non-divers and snorkelers. During your MUSA dive, see over 450 life-sized statues which are now covered with algae and the coral reef. This man-made reef attracts all kinds of underwater life: the crevices of the sculptures provide great hiding places for fish to breed and inhabit.

After an hour or two you will be rewarded with the first views of the whale sharks. Observe them from the boat and jump off the boat to swim up close, if you dare. With your fins and mask, you can snorkel alongside a whale shark. Do you feel the adrenaline?  After the whale shark activity, get your gear and snorkel at the coral reef to see some tropical fish and corals. Enjoy a delicious Caribbean style lunch while lounging in the water at one of the most beautiful beaches of the world.

What people are saying about Cancún

The excursion was great… we were picked up at our hotel (Mahekal Beach Resort) at 7:40 am sharp. Then more people were picked up on the way... Then we went to snuggle with the turtles, it was great. After snorkeling it was back to the bus for water, sandwich and muffins. After the short break we went to a cenote. The whole excursion was accompanied by a guide, just great... I can only recommend it because it was half the price of what the hotel offered.

I could not recommend this trip highly enough. We saw around 10 turtles really close up. We also saw Eagle Ray, puffer fish, lion fish and barracuda. The Cenotes were really interesting and swimming in them was a great experience. The guide, Arty, was knowledgable and welcoming. We felt safe throughout and he paid special attention to ensure a 7 year old in our group was every bit as involved as the adults.

Kathi was a fun, laidback, and knowledgeable tour guide who was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with. Martin was an awesome driver, managing the busy traffic and the remote drive to the cenote with equal skill. This was an amazing day of adventure. We saw multiple sea turtles, amazing Mayan ruins, and swam in an underground river. What more could you ask for?!

Cenotes are interesting… small and easily explored The sea turtles are amazing to see … Best part of the trip Very authentic and environmentally responsible…

We loved this excursion. It was so interesting and fun. Our tour guide Arturo was excellent. Tequila boom boom!
