From Tangier: Day Trip to Chefchaouen and Akchour Waterfalls
- Private group
- Pickup available
- Duration: 10 hours
Explore the cosmopolitan city of Tangier on a private sightseeing tour and discover all its main attractions, from bustling markets to historic caves. You will first drive to Malabata Cape (East Tangier) for a great orientation view of the city. Look over at Europe on one side and Africa on the other. Drive through the new city to Spartel Cape (West Tangier), considered the most northwesterly point of Africa, and where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean. The next stop will be the Caves of Hercules, inhabited since the Neolithic period. According to legend, the caves were once the home of Hercules, who created the Straits of Gibraltar with a single blow of his hand. Discover the old face of the city, starting with the Kasbah, where artists and writers have gathered for centuries. Go to the Archaeological Museum, before walking through the colorful streets of the Medina to Mendou...
Very good tour, well organised and well run. Hands was friendly and informative.
Visit Chefchaouen, a beautiful blue door and white-walled medina that was originally a Berber post. The main square is the heart of Chefchaouen, with the 18th-century kasbah, a central mosque and cafes with authentic Moroccan style menus. The market is a mix of traditional Moroccan and tourist souvenirs — it’s often very busy, but worth a visit for the bargains. On your walking tour with your driver, explore the kasbah which was built by Moulay Ismail and is now practically a ruin next to the Great Mosque. Visit the charming main square and the souks that sell an array of goods. If you head to the Jewish quarter behind the jewelry souk, you will feel the difference between it and the main Arabic feel of the town. Afterwards, discover the waterfalls of Akchour, a natural beauty, and the small breathtaking waterfalls. A local tour guide is provided at Akchour.
My wife and I loved our Chefchaouen tour. Youssef, our guide for our time in the blue city, was both knowledgeable and funny: it felt like we were being guided by a friend. He spoke fluent English and really gave us a great experience. Our driver was also incredibly friendly, punctual, and safe. While we were (slightly) disappointed that the tour booked a guide for the Akchour Waterfalls that did not speak any English (we are NOT disappointed in him; he was great! We just assummed that we ordered an English speaking tour). It was still a great time and he made our experience great, too. Keep in mind: this tour was for individuals that did not mind rock scrambling on semi-challenging terrain. In fairness, our guide may have given us the option to choose which path to take, but there was no way of knowing this because we did not share the same language. All in all, a great experience! :)
Today you will be brought face to face with the real Tangier. Start out with a peaceful drive along la Corniche, the central beach, and then visit the east side of the city. From here, you can snap some pictures over the port, and if you're lucky, you might even be able to see Spain from here! Then, its time to head inland and visit Iberia and the California residential area, which is filed with luxurious chalets and villas (a bit like California itself!). Your guide will point out the history of these locations as you are treated to some fine photo and shopping opportunities. Then, head along the coast for a tour of the mythical Hercules caves. These caves are said to have once housed the hero, and you can decide for yourself what parts of the legend to believe. After the caves, it's time to come to the real heart of Tangier, with a walking tour of the Kasbah. This 15th century fortr...
Excellent 6 hour tour. Everything was worth seeing. Comfortable, went at our own pace, not rushed. When we were drawn to something, the guide gave us the freedom to explore, or we could ask to see something and he took us there, such as a beautiful Jewish Synagogue down a tiny alley in the Médina which we never would have found on our own.

I have nothing but good things to say about my tour to Chefchaouen and Akchour today. My day started with Monsif greeting me at the scheduled time. Monsif was very friendly, professional, and made sure I got to my destination on time while driving very carefully. My tour guide for the day was Omar, and I must say, he gave the best tour I have gotten while I was in Morocco. Just to name a few things about the tour experience: - He was very knowledgeable about the history of Chefchaouen - He picked the best spots to view the inside and outside of the city - He did not push stores or vendors to buy from - He made sure I was safe the entire way through the tour/hike overall, he is a very friendly and great guide and person I strongly recommend this tour for anybody looking to tour Chefchaouen and Akchour for the day!! Thank you again Monsif and Omar for the amazing and unforgettable experience!!!
Overall it was a great day, especially the mixture of the natural experience at the beautiful waterfall and river in Akchour and the tour through Chefchaouen with a local guide Omar. He chose the perfect spots to see, to drink tee and have lunch. Also he was a great guide through the national park and the history and the most beautiful spots in Chefchaouen. Thank you! Special thanks also to Said, who was a very good and secure driver. Many thanks to both for making it an unforgettable day with a lot of extra information.
Had a wonderful excursion and day with Omar! Him and syed went above and beyond in all aspects. Could not recommend this tour more. They were attentive and ensured we felt safe and comfortable at all times - particularly being two young women travelling. Also highly knowledgeable with the tour and all of Morocco, and were approachable regarding any questions we had
It was the most amazing tour and experience I have ever had. Omar was kind and knowledgeable. Very fun. The driver was also amazing! Great skills up the mountain. Wifi in the car was a huge plus and nice bonus. Worth every penny and more.
Very friendly guide, adapts to our requests and answers each of our questions They give a lot of relevant information on the city and on Morocco in general Very careful and courteous driver
