4. From Amman: Private Petra Day Trip with Guide

You will leave the hotel early in the morning to drive south to the Nabatean Red Rose City of Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, for a classic visit. As you travel, gaze at the desert landscapes and hear tales of Jordan’s history. Hewn into a sandstone valley carved by the Nabataean people more than 2,000 years ago, this ancient rose-red rock city is located 245 kilometers from Amman at the crossroads of age-old trading routes, to dominate ancient Arabia. Reach Petra's main site to learn more about its magnificent history. On arrival, leave your vehicle, and enjoy a 2-hour tour of this UNESCO Heritage-listed wonder with a local guide. First, walk through the famous “Siq”, a narrow path of 1.2-kilometer rock fissure that was once the main entrance to the city, and marvel at your first glimpse of the hauntingly beautiful Treasury “Al - Khazneh” as the canyon suddenly opens up. Admire this rose-pink masterpiece, originally built to house priceless treasures and capture it on camera. Then, proceed through the widening canyon to witness other monuments such as the 3,000-seater Theater, the Royal Tombs, and the Byzantine Church. As you explore, listen as your guide describes how the Nabateans sculpted the buildings, and learn how they mastered the harsh desert conditions to make their lives here. After around two hours of exploring, enjoy some free time. If time permits you can climb up the Monastery on your own or the High Place of Sacrifice, a clifftop altar that was once used for animal sacrifices and other ceremonies. Or use your free time to visit the Petra Museum. After leaving the site pass by Little Petra, a small rocky valley with carvings, that archaeologists believe acted as the Nabatean’s caravan before heading to the main city and as an accommodation stop for the traders who traveled through the city. What people are saying about Capital Governorate Amman

My wife and I went on a full day trip with Hassan to Petra and Wadi Ram and it was fantastic. Pick up was right on time at 7am and Hassan was amazing throughout our journey. He made sure my wife and I were well and even made a stop at a Pharmacy for my wife who was not very well. He also gave us some great recommendations on how to explore the various sights in Petra. Mohammed who then took over in Wadi Ram was also fantastic! Hassan drove us all the way to the Dead Sea for the evening and made sure we were well taken care of every step. We highly recommend this tour/driver for anyone coming to Jordan!

Magnificent experience. Mohammed was an excellent, personable and friendly driver. He kept us company during the trip, telling us anecdotes and answering all our curiosities in perfect English. Fantastic tour to Petra! The only flaw: before booking we had written to assistance to find out if the guided tour of Petra was included and they answered yes, but upon arrival we discovered that it was not included. However it must be said that Petra can be visited easily even without a guide, thanks to the brochures at the entrance. Intimate and great experience in Wadi Rum. Really recommended!

This was a great trip. Everything went perfect from my pick up and drop off at hotel. The Sun trail was amazing I did it in my own with no local guide inside the canyon needed. The canyon was easy to navigate and do much fun. It’s a great combination of walking and swimming and climbing ladders . I completed the canyon in a little over 2 hours it was a great experience

First time in Jordan so wanted to use a guide to start exploring. Hassan was on time and extremely pleasant and informative during the tour. Highly recommended.
