Petra has hundreds of sites; you could easily spend 3 days in Wadi Mousa and visit a different one each day. However, with the help of a local guide, it's possible to discover the main sites in just a few hours. A local guide will be at your disposal for 2 to 3 hours. Upon arrival at Petra, pass the Siq. Continue to the stunning Treasury carved into the sandstone rock. Then go to the Theatre and beautiful rock-carved Monastery. This is so huge that even the doorway is several stories tall. On the way to (or from) the Monastery, you can visit the Place of Sacrifice, located between the hills. Marvel at the 1,050 stairs that lead up to the site. Petra's name comes from the Latin word "petrae" ("rock") and the city lies in a great rift valley east of Jordan's Wadi Araba. It came into prominence in the late first BCE (BC) through the success of the spice trade. It was the principal city of ancient Nabataean and famous for its trade and hydraulic engineering systems. The city was autonomous until the reign of Trajan, but flourished under Roman rule. It grew up around its colonnades and followed the flow of the Wadi Musa. The quarries were probably opened during this period and continuous building followed throughout the first and second centuries CE. After you've seen the main sites of Petra and been to the Place of Sacrifice, return to the transfer vehicle and journey back to Amman.

What people are saying about Capital Governorate Amman

We spent on this trip 2 days and it felt like we saw all the highlights of Jordan. We started in Petra and went in from behind, not the main entrance which was perfect cause we were immediately at monastery and then continued to walk down to the centre and treasury. We spent 7 hrs in Petra and came in the evening to Wadi Rum desert camp just right for the delicious dinner :) Next day we started with amazing jeep ride in the desert, later had a look at beautiful Aqaba and took a bath in Dead sea and even though it was a lot of traveling it was not exhausting but very much entertaining. If you like adventure combined with getting to know new places, people and tasting local food - this trip is the right one for you! Our tour guide Zaid and driver Khaled were amazing, very friendly and knowledgeable and they made our experience a unique one :)

My wife and I went on a full day trip with Hassan to Petra and Wadi Ram and it was fantastic. Pick up was right on time at 7am and Hassan was amazing throughout our journey. He made sure my wife and I were well and even made a stop at a Pharmacy for my wife who was not very well. He also gave us some great recommendations on how to explore the various sights in Petra. Mohammed who then took over in Wadi Ram was also fantastic! Hassan drove us all the way to the Dead Sea for the evening and made sure we were well taken care of every step. We highly recommend this tour/driver for anyone coming to Jordan!

Magnificent experience. Mohammed was an excellent, personable and friendly driver. He kept us company during the trip, telling us anecdotes and answering all our curiosities in perfect English. Fantastic tour to Petra! The only flaw: before booking we had written to assistance to find out if the guided tour of Petra was included and they answered yes, but upon arrival we discovered that it was not included. However it must be said that Petra can be visited easily even without a guide, thanks to the brochures at the entrance. Intimate and great experience in Wadi Rum. Really recommended!

Our guide was amezing, the programs, the food, everything was excellent. I would recommend youe service for everyone who wants to visit Jordan, you really made our visit memorable.

A very successful trip. We have seen the most beautiful places in Jordan, people are very kind. Very good food, generally everything is a big plus.
