Sintra - Cascais: 6-Hour Electric Bike Tour from Lisbon

1. Sintra - Cascais: 6-Hour Electric Bike Tour from Lisbon

Embark on a 6-hour electric bike tour with 4 different modes of assistance, making climbing the Sintra mountain a lot easier, even for those used to a sedentary lifestyle. The tour begins with a briefing on how the bikes work, at Martim Moniz Square in central Lisbon. You’ll then head to Rossio station to catch the train for Sintra. During the train trip you’ll have time to let your guide know if you’d like to visit some of the palaces along the way or if you just want to cycle. When you arrive in Sintra, you can visit the National Palace if you like. Most of your cycling tour takes place within the natural park of Sintra-Cascais. You’ll have the option of visiting Quinta da Regaleira, built between 1904 and 1910, and a place renowned for its symbolism, magic, and mystery. Shortly after you’ll pass by Seteais, a former 18th-century palace that is now a 5-star hotel.   Continue your trip along roads flanked by majestic groves until you reach the entrance of Monserrate Park and Palace, one of the most beautiful creations in the Portuguese Romanticism style. Arrive at Colares, a place that’s well known for its vineyards. Continue on to Penedo village, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views from the atrium of the church, before cycling on to Urgueira village. Take a break for lunch in Azóia village, where you’ll find a great variety of restaurants. With renewed energy, continue your tour through an ancient forest and make your way up to the Peninha Sanctuary, located at 488 meters above sea level. From here, you’ll have a panoramic view of the Espichel Cape and Arrábida, to the south, Carvoeiro Cape and Berlengas, to the north, and the entire Sintra mountain to the north-east. Returning to the centre of Sintra, you’ll cycle downhill and have one last look at Pena Palace, an important monument of the Portuguese Romanticism movement. You’ll be traveling with an informative and helpful guide, as passionate about beloved Sintra as about cycling.  Alternatively, go down to Guincho wild beach – with its never-ending dunes and typical winds that are so treasured by windsurf lovers – until you reach the bicycle path to Cascais. Return to Lisbon through the beautiful town of Cascais by train where you will have one of the most amazing views over the Portuguese coast.

What people are saying about Cascais

We are a family of four, with children ages 10 and 12, and we had an excellent time. Jaime was our guide and was great, he also gave us a great restaurant recommendation of Estrela D’ouro to enjoy on our last night in Lisbon. Wonderful! The entire excursion from when we arrived at the meeting point until we finished back at the meeting point, was about 8 hours. We did not stop for lunch, though I’m sure we could have if we insisted. We did stop a couple of times for treats. We agree with other reviewers that this is not a good trip for sedentary travelers. We are active and exercise regularly, and were challenged by it. Our smallest child is 4.5 feet (1.3m) tall. They have a bike that could be adjusted for him, but anyone smaller would need to ride on the back of another bike (they had one of those bikes) or get a baby seat if a very small child. Our youngest child took a turn too fast and got a bit scraped up, Jaime was quick with the first aid. Overall great trip, we recommend!

We had booked the tour in German, but were asked if English was ok too. Wasn't a problem for us. The tour was super super super nice! If you want to experience something really great away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place for you. Our guide Daniell was very friendly and tried to show and tell us a lot. Were due to 2 cancellations (due to being absolutely late, which I find really rude to everyone else) only 4 participants. take a windbreaker with you. Oh, and you should be able to ride a bike, preferably an e-bike. Otherwise it's no fun for anyone. For us it was perfect and we can only recommend it! Should be experienced and, above all, seen!

I highly recommend this experience! You see so much more from a bike and these E-bikes make it easy. Our guide, Jaime, made the tour personal to us and was so knowledgeable about the history of Portugal and some out of the way places we would not see on a van tour. The tour has some steep climbs, made fairly easy by the bikes, and some exhilarating downhill runs that may not be for the faint of heart but, if your game, so fun! It’s a long day on a bike so be prepared for that but it is worth it.

Great to get out of the city. Bicycles in excellent condition. Rodrigo was super friendly and patient. Unfortunately we couldn't do the mountains of Sintra due to fire risk, but Rodrigo adjusted the trip and took us through Cascais - beautiful!

Rodrigo was an amazing guide, and an e bike is an incredibly relaxing way to see the beautiful scenery of the area. Really got the sense that we were experiencing something not many tourists get a chance to do! Would definitely recommend.
