One of the best mountain experiences I have ever had! Our guide Pepe was very friendly, experienced and took care of us really good. He knows Etna very well and as we had very strong wind that day, we had to skip some of the parts he had planned. Nevertheless he showed us other parts of the mountain that were also super interesting! The hiking to the summit was challenging but it was definitely easier than it looks like. He had managed to keep good pace comfortable for everyone and as we were on the top it was totally worth it! The day was very good organized by Mary, who is VERY responsive to messages and has helped us a lot finding transportation to the meeting point. In case you don't have appropriate hiking shoes or jacket, they will provide you with some at the beginning. All in all this guys have great organisation, are really professional with what they are doing and are super friendly and nice! I highly recommend them! PS. Bring sun glasses and a scarve, super important if windy
Max was fantastic. He was incredibly patient with a member of our group who was not able to handle the strenuousness of the hike. This hike really is for intermediate or advanced hikers. The altitude, terrain and steepness can be difficult. He did a great job of taking some breaks to teach us about the volcano and its activity. Unfortunately it was too cloudy at the top to see into the crater. I picked this tour because the gear was included and it was definitely needed! My husband only had shorts and Max gave him some long pants. We both needed boots (and we bought hiking socks in the gift shop), ski jackets and gloves. It is incredibly windy and cold at the summit!! An amazing adventure to trek across lava fields from just a few years ago.
This was a fantastic experience. Max, our English speaking guide for our multinational group of 14, was knowledgeable, interesting, safe, engaging and really looked after us. We were incredibly lucky and able to enjoy the first snow of the season, icicles forming from the cool wind on the volcano, a clear bright and windy day which meant that we could see into one of the craters and the icing on the cake was the mini eruption from the SE crater. The group is wisely kept at a slow steady pace so that everyone can adjust to the altitude in a controlled way that keeps everyone safe. Because of Corona virus and the time of year it was pretty quiet and all the more special to be able to walk through this amazing force of nature. Thank you
This trek was made extra special by our guide Max, one of the best guides we have come across anywhere in our travels. His knowledge, enthusiasm and humour were fantastic. We were able to see craters up close and have the most amazing views. His care for those with a fear of heights (and it was higher and steeper than the description) was very sympathetic. We are fit, but the altitude can affect anyone so be prepared. Hiking boots a must. You can borrow a thick coat, boots, poles and gloves - all a must for October weather even though we had sun. The cable car was not in operation so we had to use the bus and their service was extremely disappointing (and sadly out of anyone’s control but the operators!). So, enjoy, it’s amazing!
The trip was very well organized and the briefing went as expected. Max was then a Great passionate guide who was entertaining but also serious and knowledgeable. Really outstanding. Beware that it is VERY COLD! We were diving in the sea the day before the tour like 1hour drive away at 30degrees, and now we were in drizzling rain at 5degrees with 80km/h windgusts. I would really pack like it’s winter. Also we actually hiked to the crater edge which looks like the gate to hell: steaming, gas and ashclouds etc - we were stunned! Really unique experience. Hike itself is medium difficult, again most challenging was the cold. But we loved the experience, highly recommended
