Even if you cannot (October 2019) hike to the crater rim because Mount Etna is too active, the tour gives a very good insight into the world of volcanism. Without a guide, you won't get far from the height to which the all-wheel drive vehicles drive. Therefore, booking a tour is definitely worth it. Our guide (geologist from Catania) gave very interesting geological information and also told a lot while hiking, so that he was able to convey the enthusiasm for volcanoes and seismography very well. Our 14-year-old son was also able to follow the English tour very well and was very impressed by the forces of nature. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a rush at the cable car.

everything as agreed (9am on site, departure to cable car at 9.30am), with cable car from 2000 to 2500m, with jeep from 2500 to 2900m, then go on foot to look at various craters with a vulcanologist (super guide with lots of explanation). The top crater has not been going to the top crater since Sept 2019 due to too much activity (smokes constantly), but this will only be communicated by text message 20 hours before. However, if you go out of season (we on 1 Nov) you pay 30 euros too much via get your guide because on the spot you only pay 65 euros for the whole (cable, jeep and guide) and you don't have to wait anywhere ...

Unforgettable site and very easy to access (cable car up to 2500 m and then by 4x4 truck up to 2900 m all for 50 euros) the continuation to the top is with compulsory guide and according to your physical condition ... anyway a must do if you are passing through Sicily!
