Full description

Meet elephants on this guided day trip from Chiang Mia to the anna Kingdom Elephant Sanctuary. Keep your clothes clean by wearing local clothes and boots. Feed and hug rescued elephants before sitting down to fresh lunch at a local restaurant.

Depart Chiang Mai aboard an airconditioned van and journey into the mountains of northern Thailand to visit the ethical Lanna Kingdom Elephant Sanctuary (approximately 1-hour drive from the city center).

Upon arrival, learn about the elephant conservation program and benefit from an introductory talk and the chance to interact with the rescued animals. Get the chance to give them a hug and discover how to prepare a healthy meal to feed them.

Go for a walk around the sanctuary with the elephants and stop to give them a mud bath to keep their body temperature down and protect them from parasites. Feed them before enjoying a homemade lunch at a restaurant inside the sanctuary.

Lanna Sanctuary is a great day trip for families or a group of friends. They rescue and foster a great home for the elephants to escape from their previous living conditions and have a large area to roam free. Our guide Alex was phenomenal. He had a lot of great knowledge about the elephants as well as stories about his experience growing up near Chang Mai. We were able to feed, swim, and interact with the elephants for a full day in addition to learning about how they live in the wild. We had a delicious meal prepared by their chef and they provided plenty of water and extra clothes to get dirty in. If you have Alex for the day make sure you prepare some riddles for him!

Special experience! To save your clothes you will receive a special outfit with crocs. You are first put at ease and somewhat limited information about the do's and don'ts, after which you feed bananas, prepare food, walk and bathe with the elephants in a very informal setting. All at a pace that suits the enormous heat. When we were there there were 5 elephants, rescued from circus, wood logging or tourists driving around. There they have a lot of space and relatively much freedom to go where they want - in the wild these animals no longer survive. The trip may not be cheap by Thai standards, but rescuing the animals is expensive and so is taking care of them. They eat 300 kg per elephant per day! Afterwards you can take a shower and you will also receive a towel. A very intense and unique experience, with a lot of care and love by the people of Lanna Elephant Kingdom.
