Crete: Day Trip to Chrissi Island by Bus and Boat

1. Crete: Day Trip to Chrissi Island by Bus and Boat

Ierapetra is situated on the southern coast of Crete. As it is the only town in the south, it is referred to as the Bride of Libyan Sea. With the rising of the sun, head to the gorgeous port of Ierapetra and set sail toward Chrissi Island.   Chrissi Island, or Gaidouronisi, meaning Golden Beach or Donkey Island, is an uninhabited island around 15 kilometers south of Ierapetra. 7 kilometers in length and covering an area of 4,743 km, the island is covered in golden sand and a rare variety of Lebanon cedars.  Anchoring on the south side of the island, head to the nearby beach for swimming and sunbathing. Walk the path running through the island and the cedar forest to the otherworldly beach of Chrissi Ammos. Hunt for seashells, check out the rockier coast of the island, or make the trek to the island’s lighthouse.  Swim in turquoise crystal clear waters and soak up the sun in this magical and totally undisturbed place of natural beauty.

Sunbathe on the deck of the boat as you cruise along the coast of Crete. As you approach Chrissi, take in the beauty of its shoreline and get a few photos of the island from the water. A great day; October 10th, warm weather, no wind, very few people; the island was a real paradise! Wow Great snorkeling on the East side; the Golden beach is spectacular; the cedars are also very nice. It was such a great day; I wish we stayed longer. The company was very efficient; new and good quality transport, ran on time, no waiting; friendly guides, spoke many languages; there was a bit of time in Ierapetra - it was fun to walk around the seaside and grab an orange juice. The boat was also fine, though the service in cafeteria is very slow; consider grabbing your coffee / juice in town and drinking onboard. We left at 8:35 from Elounda, took 10:30 am ferry to Chrissi; the ferry back ran at 15:40 and i was back in my hotel just before 6 pm.

It was a great trip, multilingual even if the guide only said English. The island is a dream come true and the boat trip is relaxing. However, I recommend everyone to rent an umbrella, it is not expensive and definitely necessary.

Very nice excursion, not to be missed under any circumstances ... Our guide, Hélène, wonderful! To do again ... THANKS
