Valencia: San Nicolas, Silk Museum and Santos Juanes Church

2. Valencia: San Nicolas, Silk Museum and Santos Juanes Church

Make the most of your visit to Valencia with this combined ticket to 3 unique places: the Silk Museum, the Church of San Nicolas, and the Church of Santos Juanes—commonly known as “Saint John of the Market” because of its location next to the market area. In the 13th century, this square was already the main open space in the city. Find out more about each site with an included audio guide available in 5 languages.  After an incredible restoration, the Silk Museum opens its doors to let you discover its history on an extraordinary journey. To speak of silk is to speak of a golden era for Valencia, which led to the transformation of the landscape and the way of life in the city for centuries. Explore all the secrets of the Gremi de Velluters — the silk velvet weavers' guild in Valencia — at the building where they established themselves in the 15th century, now the Silk Museum. With your audio guide, learn about the discovery of silk, the raising of silkworms, the way this luxurious material was produced in the almost 5000 looms around the city, and the success of silk fabrics in the 18th century. One of the oldest parishes in Valencia, founded more than 700 years ago, the Church of San Nicolas is an old Gothic temple reformed centuries later to give it the appearance it has today. While there, admire the beautiful baroque decoration that impresses everyone who visits it. Discover in its interior almost 2,000 square meters (21,528 square feet) of impressive fresco paintings covering its vaults, and marvel at a place known as the Valencian Sistine Chapel.

This was my favorite group experience while in Spain! Paula and her counterpart (I forgot his name) were incredible: the walking tour was informative yet not too long that walking in the heat was too uncomfortable; the private venue for the wine tasting and tapas portion was beautiful; Paula’s food and drink service was awesome— she explained each of the items prior to serving, the tapas were significant to the region and all were delicious, and Paula was generous with wine refills! There was great communication as well, which I found to be somewhat uncommon with these type of tours in Spain (with regards to where to meet / reminders and confirmations / etc.). This tour was perfect for all— in our group of 12 there were couples, parent/child groups, and solo travelers like myself, and it was a great opportunity to talk with people from other countries and make friends. This was an amazing experience— would highly recommend!

Thoroughly enjoyable evening tour, hosted by Kate. Met eight wonderful people (a Dutch couple, a Norwegian couple, a Mother and Son from the US and a couple of ladies from US as well). Kate was a fantastic host (always nice when someone hands out the food and wine, whilst you're chilling!). All in all, a very enjoyable excursion, learning a little about the history of Valencia as well as sampling a Cava, two white wines, a red wine and a mistela wine as well as tasty tapas.

Paula our guide was excellent- knew her history and was born and bred in Valencia so had a passion for her city - she was personable and friendly The wine tasting and food was beyond my expectation -excellent quality and very generous in proportions- beautiful location-we had a great group so the evening was fabulous- I would give this tour and experience 11/10

If you are a foodie and you want to try good authentic local tapas and wine, you MUST do this experience. The tour will last about 1 hour around the old town and then you will have 3 delightful hours to eat, drink and meet new people. Emma was our guide and she was outstanding. Don’t hesitate if you want to have a good time in Valencia.

I cant say enough how much we loved this guided trip. Our guide was Daniel who was extremely knowledgeable and fun as well. We had so many questions and he was so kind to answer all. The wine and the tapas were so good and the pairings were wonderful. Daniel is very kind and cant praise him enough!
