Start your day of discovery by meeting your guide outside the Colosseum at your selected departure time. Discover the site that over the centuries has become the symbol of the city. Learn about the Colosseum's rich history and from your informative guide, hear tales of gladiators, slaves, and ferocious animals. For approximately 2-hours you will get the opportunity to explore all the areas of the Colosseum and gain exclusive access to the sites off-limits areas.  Walk through the underground chambers and see where wild animals were caged, the secret passages of the Gladiators, and marvel at how animals were transported to the Arena's main level. After your tour of the Colosseum, explore the heart of the ancient city for about one-hour with your knowledgeable guide. Walk among temples, meeting places, and triumphal arches. Discover the Forum, the area that witnessed the birth and development of Roman civilization, and the political, social, religious, and economic heart of the Roman Republic. Some of the most ancient places of worship can be found in the Forum, and visitors can still witness the remains of ancient temples.

The man who met us at the meeting point was amazing. So knowledge and personable. Had so many facts about Rome in general as well as engaging and interesting facts about the colosseum. Once inside we met the Archeologists and Educator. He knew his stuff when it came to the history of the Colosseum however he appeared to be struggling with his English. Which meant his facts weren’t always clear and at times hard to follow.

The good: The tour guide herself and the access this tour provides you made it worthwhile. The bad: Underground portion was a bit underwhelming considering it was the main reason we purchased this tour as opposed to a regular one. The ugly: Logistics before the tour. We were never given a specific time, just a window of 8:15-5pm. We reached out to customer service the night before who confirmed that we could show up anytime. The next morning we woke up to an abrupt text asking where we were and that the entire group was waiting for us. We rushed out of bed, ran to the Colloseum, struggled to find the man in such a large crowd. Once we found him we apologized and tried to explain what happened. He acted unprofessionally saying it was impossible that we weren’t given a time and was argumentative. Next he led us through the entrance and we joined the rest of the group which we were right on time to. The whole thing was handled poorly and there are too many third parties involved.

Organized and informative in a crowded space!

Definitely do this tour over the regular tours where you only see the mid-levels of the Colosseum. Our guide was great helping us navigate through the crowded levels, and I couldn't imagine not going down to the basement levels where they kept the gladiators and animals that fought in the arena, plus the birds-eye view from the top levels. Not to be missed if you have any interest in a tour of the Colosseum. (Tip: Remember to use the bathroom right before tour so you don't need to go during the tour, which you won't able to since there really isn't a break for an hour and a half; conversely, you should bring a bottle of water bc it gets hot and there are public fountains all over the Forum for refilling.)
