Full description
At your visit to the Mayan Bee Sanctuary, learn about the nutritional and medicinal properties of the Melipona honey, as well as the close relationship between the Melipona bees (stingless) and the Mayan people. Hear how the ancient Mayans valued honey for its healing power, restoring the well-being and harmony of the heart, and its ability to provide vigor and strength. Walk through the monolith path where you will find unique pieces sculpted in limestone by a local artist, to show the greatness and evolution of the Mayans through their religious symbols such as the Goddess Ixchel, the Aluxes, and the stelae. Discover the fascinating structure of the hives inside and out, and how the bee colony is organized. Admire the incredible organization of the colony and discover the role of the queen bee, the princesses, the drones, the workers, and the guardian. This was a beautiful (and my favorite) part of our recent trip to Cozumel. It was so nice to step away from the bustle of downtown into this sanctuary. The cleansing ritual was a great way to get started, and our guide, Russell, was so helpful answering my MANY questions about the bees. We got to see bees we've never seen before and came away relaxed and centered. Highly recommend!

Amazing!! Russel, our guide was so informed and passionate about the ancient history of the Mayan people and the importance of preservation of these stingless bee. Carlos, the residential artist, had beautiful gifts for sale all handmade by him. 10/10
