What people are saying about Crete

I enjoyed the walk very much. Beautiful scenery throughout and well organised. I would recommend proper shoes (not sandals or trainers) as the stones are rough and slippery. You can hire sticks for €3 each and I would recommend those too. It felt like the guide was pushing us a bit time-wise, but he did so to ensure we walked the canyon in the shade: if you do not like the heat this is important. It took us six hours from start to finish so we had almost 3 hours in Agia Roumeli to enjoy the beach. The beach in Agia Roumeli has a few stones; you can rent umbrella and chair for €7. There are restaurants and small grocery / souvenir shops there too. We were originally booked on a Tuesday, but when we got to Omalos we were told the weather was too bad and we returned home: I think they could have predicted this sooner and avoid us waking up at 5...but they rescheduled for two days later and it was all smooth. Those who could not go got a refund. Omalos' bar has food but is not great.

Full-Day Samaria Gorge Trekking Excursion from Chania Reviewed by Anonymous, 10/18/2020

It was a wonderfully memorable experience, our guide Thomas was super cool, and prepared us well for the day. Make sure your knees are in good shape, wear proper shoes that support your ankle, you will be glad you did, also knee support like knee sleeves might help. Have a hat for the last few km, it will get sunny and have swim gear for when you get to Agia Roumeli, it's a shame not to enjoy that blue water at the end. The ferry to Sougia will be the cherry on the cake, gorgeous 1h boat ride with superb sights of the mountains meeting the sea. The 1.5h drive back through the mountains is on very bendy mountain roads, so don't eat or drink too much before; it's about 50 min of non stop bends, if you're car sick be prepared. It will surely be a once in a lifetime experience, but it will totally be worth it, be prepared to be limping around for the next 3 days, it's no joke, your legs will feel this hike!

This experience was fun! The ambiance and people are welcoming Thank you Gregory Hakim and the other guy (sorry I don’t know his name!) for this great day in the mountains. About the horses they are kind and obediently I got Pamela Anderson (bc obvs I’m tall) no accident no problem! So don’t be afraid about the horses! All the animals got funny names by the way ! I let yall know by yourself Thank you to Gregory’s wife for the Greek dishes it was tasty but the meat ball was everything for me ! I recommended 100% They picked you to your hotel and drop you at the end of the activity to your hotel. About the rhythm you go slowly with the group but if you want to do some galop you can do it during the break ! ευχαριστώ (πολύ) means Efcharisto poly!

Horse Riding Day Tour with Lunch from Crete Reviewed by Gogoua, 10/29/2020

It was an excellent morning. Ideal for complete beginners, families and children. They show you how to ride and hold your horse throughout if you'd like. The pace of the ride is very slow and the route is safe. If you are a seasoned rider, just sit back and enjoy the scenery. It's more about seeing the countryside than the ride. At the end there is an opportunity to gallop briefly. Gregori and his family are the most welcoming and generous I have ever seen. The lunch is huge so come hungry. They can accommodate dietary requirements. Products are locally grown / sourced. Wine and spirits are included in the lunch. Gregori takes pictures during the ride which he prints on photo paper and you can purchase at the end.

Overall really enjoyed the experience and thought it was great value for the price! The beginning of the hike was a little hectic as two bus loads of people entered the trail at once (where it's very narrow and slippery), but after about 20 minutes of walking people started to spread out and walk at various paces. It took my group about 3.5 hours to complete the trail, we walked at a brisk pace and only stopped once for 15 minutes to eat our lunch. We really enjoyed the beautiful scenery and quiet (not as many visitors in October). Once we reached the end, we walked through the town to get to the beach and enjoyed a couple of hours there in the sun.
