Full description

An expert driver will take you through olive, orange and lemon groves as you head out on this 8-hour Jeep safari. Your first stop will be at the spectacular Venizelos Gorge. Admire the views and the wild landscapes. Continue on to the picturesque village of Therisso. The village played an important role in local history, as it was here that the Cretan revolution began in 1905. The drive will become more adventurous as your driver takes you on an off-road route. Half an hour later you’ll reach a traditional mitato hut, where shepherds live and still produce cheese following techniques that are a century old. Taste local products at Therisso village including mountain tea, the famous Cretan cheese named "graviera", Cretan honey, and "tsakistes" olives. Then, enjoy 5 different wines as you visit the Vatolakos village and Manousakis winery.

Depending on the time of year, the restaurant for your lunch will be selected to avoid crowds. Your lunch will consist of traditional Cretan flavors with season salad, wine, and dessert.

My husband and I were picked up steps from our Airbnb by George and training Andreas. From there we went to small Cretan village cafe at the start of the mountains and had a local herb tea with a meze of cheese/olives/tomatoes. Than we headed up to the top of glorious mountain side. There was still snow, a hut where an elder makes cheese and beautiful scenery that is hard to put in words. We were slowed by a herd of sheep, not once but twice. Personally that it was amazing to see. Be warned you are on unpaved ,rocky roads. Than after our trip up and down the mountains we went to the winery, had a tour, wine tasting and a plethora of food. It was fantastic! After that we headed to Agia Lake for dessert where we could view the mountains we were just at. It was the most incredible, authentic journey through Chania Crete. In the end we were sad to say goodbye to George and Andreas whom felt like family at the end. Can not recommend enough!! It is absolute must to do in Chania!!!

    Interesting and informative

The drive into the mountains and visit to the shepherds huts was very interesting and informative. Our driver/guide Nasos was very knowledgeable about Crete and its history. The provided luncheon was a first class example of local meat preparation. This excursion took us down roads and to places we would never have otherwise found. Thoroughly recommended.

Beautiful, fun, entertaining and learning trip

My friend and I, both at 18, are very positive about the trip. We were picked up by the owner of the company Nasos, who also runs his guests. We are greeted by a very smiling and happy man who not only remembered our names throughout the trip, but also knew the best places for us when we were young and he made a map for us so we could easily find around to the different places. We were on the trip with three others and it was very important for Nasos that we all had fun together. We were up in the mountains and valleys and even walked around and saw the views, the nature and the various animals. We were in orange, lemon and olive groves. With an old man in the mountains and hears his story and how he had made the cheese we ate and at a family museum where we saw where the olive oil was made earlier. All in all, we are very positive about the company, the way the trip was shaped, the food and the various specialties. If you want to enjoy your day in good company this is recommended.
