Full description
Crete is known for beaches, mountains, and famous archaeological sites. The capital city of Heraklion is home to a well-known Archaeological Museum that you will visit on this walking tour. It houses Minoan civilization treasures and artefacts from Knossos dating back to the Bronze Age. The Heraklion Archaeological Museum is one of the best and complete collections of artefacts from this great civilization. You'll learn about the mythical labyrinth of Knossos, why Venetian and Ottoman monuments are found in Heraklion, and why ancient Knossos is one of the country’s most important archaeological sites.  With your professional guide, you will also visit an archaeological site, the palace of Knossos, as well as the 16th-century Koules Fortress. Built by the Venetians in the early part of the century, the fortress stands at the entrance to the old port and is still in great condition.
