Full description
Join a unique and fascinating day tour of a spectacular region where the rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef. Your day begins with a breath-taking scenic flight delivering stunning views of the tropical rainforest-clad coastline, the azure waters of the Coral Sea, and the Great Barrier Reef. Only from this unique aerial perspective can the vibrant hues and sheer expanse of the reef’s thriving coral gardens be truly appreciated. Your highly skilled pilot will share their local knowledge of the region while on the lookout for turtles, dolphins, manta rays, and large schools of fish. Majestic humpback whales can also be spotted from July to September. The highlights continue as you cross back over the coastline and follow the majestic Daintree River as it winds its way through the oldest continually-surviving rainforest on Earth. Your rainforest guide will prepare morning tea as you touch down on the banks of the river. Then, embarking on a 1-hour Daintree river cruise, to look out for the prehistoric estuarine crocodile. Your experienced river guide will discuss the unique characteristics of the region's birdlife, butterflies, tree snakes, reptiles, mangrove systems and other endemic plants. Next, climb aboard a purpose-built tour vehicle and ascend the Alexandra Range, stopping for a breathtaking photo opportunity at the iconic Alexandra Range Lookout. Then, join your naturalist guide on an elevated boardwalk tour. Learn about the region's unique and diverse flora and fauna, including chance sightings of the endemic Boyd’s Rainforest Dragon, plus the elusive and endangered Southern Cassowary. Lunch will be a tropical BBQ amongst the rainforest, with the opportunity to hand-feed wallabies. After lunch, continue on to Cape Tribulation beach, with time for a leisurely walk. With a photogenic backdrop of majestic rainforest-clad mountains, this is the only place on earth where two World Heritage areas coexist, as Wet Tropical Rainforest meets The Great Barrier Reef. Next, journey beyond Cape Tribulation on a 4WD vehicle along 7kms of the Bloomfield Track to pristine Emmagen Creek, with the opportunity for a refreshing rainforest swim. Search the creek for turtles and fish and keep an eye out for the dazzling Blue Ulysses butterfly. Take the opportunity to taste some seasonal tropical fruits, while your guide prepares traditional Billy Tea and damper. Enjoy a refreshment stop at the Daintree ice-creamery, before a cable-ferry crossing of the Daintree River. The homeward journey commences through lowland rainforest and tropical farmland, before following one of the most picturesque coastal drives in Australia, The Great Tropical Drive.
