From Yogyakarta: Dieng Plateau Golden Sunrise Trip

1. From Yogyakarta: Dieng Plateau Golden Sunrise Trip

Following pick-up from your hotel in Yogyakarta at midnight, the journey to Dieng Plateau will take about 3 hours by car. The hike to the Dieng Plateau sunrise viewpoint at the top of Sikunir Hill takes 20-30 minutes from the foot of the path that leads you to the top. On a clear day, you can see up to 8 volcanoes from the top of this hill.  From the top of Sikunir Hill, you will head to Telaga Warna Lake via Batu Pandang Hill after the Dieng Plateau sunrise. Telaga Warna Lake, or ‘Colourful Lake’, contains water that can change in fluctuating colors. At times it can be green, purple, yellow or even taking the colors of the rainbow! This phenomenon occurs when the sun hits the water due to its high sulfur content. From Telaga Warna Lake, you will next visit Sikidang Crater, which is an open sulfur crater with angry bubbling mud and bellowing steam. It’s set among a bumpy and dusty landscape that will make you feel like you arrived on another planet. Not far from the crater, you can also visit the Arjuna Temple Complex which houses eight small Hindu temples that date back to the seventh century.

this trip is really worth to go! Start at 1am Driver - Widi pick up me from hotel on time and arrive the Dieng at about 3am, but poor that is traffic jam and driver took me go to the entrance by motor bike in order to catch the sunrise. This is an extra exciting experiences, amazing! I spend about 45mins to climb on the hill and waiting for Sunrise. Although a lot of peoples, but the atmosphere is really high when the sunrise start till the whole sun on the sky. more is several mountains hide in the cloud and full of cloud of sea around the mountains, what a beautiful picture. Later on we drive to the lake and spring point and the old temple. That is not easy found this natural view from other places. This trip is spectacular and full of amazing. and i think everyone been jogja must visit this place.

We had a great day with our guide and driver Widi. we choosed to go to borobodur in the early morning to see the sunrise there and going to dieng plateau afterwards which was a good decision in the rainy season as there were too many clouds to see the mountains. Borobodur wasn't too crowded and we had enough time and space to explore. It is a long trip to the plateau but Widi brought us safe to the best spots and told us many things about the sights and the Indonesian culture. His English is very good and we talked and laughed a lot. We recommend this trip especially in the rainy season because there are fewer tourists and more time to experience it for yourself.

It is a bit early to get up but it‘s def worth it! You will walk on the top of the plateau which takes you about 30 mins from your parking spot. Be quick and you can get a good spot for the sunrise(pics) . After sunrise it‘s just magical to see all the other vulcanos around the area. You also visit some boiling waterholes and a temple before you‘re getting back to your stay and maybe catch a bit sleep ☺️. Also the guide Ivan is outstanding. He knows so much about the area and his driver also (forgot the name sorry ). So get up early and climb on the plateau, its def worth it!

Well worth the long journey!

Driving from Yogyakarta to Dieng at 1 am for 3 plus hours just to see the sunrise may seem troublesome but it is well worth the effort! The sunrise is out of this world!! Woro (I hope I got her name right!) is a knowledgeable and patient guide. And our driver (I forgot his name!) is a safe and careful driver. The trip was well organised and we really enjoyed ourselves! Highly recommended!

Indra was a super friendly guide, gave us exciting information and even made a stopover at the Luwak coffee on the return trip. The collection also worked perfectly. Highly recommend the tour!
