  • Lake Mývatn Classic Tour from Akureyri

    1. Lake Mývatn Classic Tour from Akureyri

The Lake Mývatn area is considered by many to be the most beautiful place in Iceland. Begin your 8-hour tour with a stop at Goðafoss Waterfall, a picturesque and iconic site located on the Skjálfandafljót River. Your next stop in the Lake Mývatn area will be the pseudo-craters of Skútustaðagígar. You’ll also see more of the area’s highlights, including the Hverir mud pools, Grjótagjá rift and the Dimmuborgir lava fields among others. The final stop of the day is at the Mývatn nature baths, where you’ll have the option of relaxing in a natural pool of geothermal water, located in the middle of lava fields and with great area views.

Very interesting geology and landscape...very varied. A lot to see, without needing to drive oneself. Must do the hot spa experience.

Return to Akureyri Port at least 1 hour before your ship’s departure for the end of the tour services.

Paul was an excellent guide giving us all a well balanced tour of this area with a good amount of relevant information without overloading us. We were fortunate that we had our best day of weather on our cruise and we made the most of it enjoying the incredible views from the mighty Godfoss falls, geyser's and lava fields to the panama's around each bend in the road.

A somewhat packed program, but very eventful.

We were picked up on time by the cruise ship and drove with a minibus and a very nice tour guide. The program was very extensive and we would have liked more time at some stops. The lake, the adjacent volcanic landscape with surface activity and the natural pool were particularly worth seeing. On the way we could enjoy the great landscape. In the end we were dropped back on time at the ship. Cheap and worthwhile alternative to the excursions of the cruise lines.

We had rain and wind but despite the cold the guide was informed and I marveled at the landscape. It is majestically surreal. My only issue is that again we did not have enough time between the sites. Though given the weather condition I guess it worked out.

The guide was great, he showed us beautiful places! Small flat, the stops were a bit quick, but I recommend this excursion, I saw the most beautiful landscapes
