Almería: Guided City Discovery Tour
- Duration: 2 hours
Visit the historic center of the city of Almeria beginning with the Purchena Gate, one of the oldest entrances to the city. From there, walk the old streets whilst discovering the history of the Civil War shelters, the Arabic Cisterns, the Old Square, and the old Muslim Medina, where you will learn about its founder; Jairán. Moving on, stroll through the cathedral-fortress neighborhood, Plaza Bendicho, and Celia Viñas, not forgetting the Sanctuary of the Virgen del Mar, the School of Arts and Crafts, and the Cervantes Theater. The Doña Pakyta House-Museum and the Nicolás Salmerón Park will then be the prelude to the emblematic English Cable, where your tour ends with your guide explaining one of the best iron engineering works in the city.
The first museum visited on this tour is the Almería Heritage Interpretation Center. Learn about the most important phases of the city's history. Starting with Muslim Almería on the first floor, then Christian Almería on the second floor, and contemporary Almeria on the last floor. From the roof of the museum see a panoramic view of the city's fortress, the Alcazaba. Your next stop is the Museum of the Spanish guitar “Antonio Torres” to discover the history of the guitar and its influence on art. Admire a beautiful exhibition of guitars played by world-renowned artists like Andrés Segovia, Paco de Lucía, and Tomatito. Afterward head to the Doña Pakyta Museum of Art, the former residence of the Almeria businesswoman Doña Pakyta. Learn about Doña Pakyta's commitment to the city, see the building's 1920s Spanish regionalist architecture, and walk through the cultural space that hosts Alme...
