From Orosei: Tiscali Mountain & Nuragic Village Hike

4. From Orosei: Tiscali Mountain & Nuragic Village Hike

Start the tour with pickup from your hotel in Orosei, Sos Alinos, Galtelli, Cala Gonone, Dorgali or Oliena, then set off for the Lanaitho Valley. Begin the hike with a gentle walk through oak trees and Mediterranean scrubland.  Then, follow the path as it climbs the slopes of the mountain passing majestic Juniper trees and more imposing oaks. When you reach the top, pay a visit to a rocky cave and admire the ruins of the Nuragic village. Learn about the ancient Sardinians who used to live in this remote area. After the tour inside the cave, continue walking along the ridge of Monte Tiscali - the most scenic part of the trek. Be enchanted by the wonderful views all around and find a scenic location for your picnic lunch, either immersed in the woods or overlooking the valley from a panoramic rocky terrace. Finally, return back to the starting point and enjoy a convenient return transfer back to your hotel. If you prefer, ask the driver to drop you off at another location on the route back.

Dorgali: Trek to Gorropu with Panoramic Views

5. Dorgali: Trek to Gorropu with Panoramic Views

Meet your guide in Orosei or Dorgali before starting the adventure with some off-road driving to descend into the valley where the trek path begins. The hike starts with some water wading through the Flumineddu river to enter the woodland area formed of Old Oaks, Arbutus and Mediterranean shrubs. Walk along the cliffs of Monte Oddeu and arrive at the entrance to the Gorroppu gorge in less than 2 hours. Admire the incredible rocky walls which rise for more than 400 meters over the dry river bed, making this gorge one of the deepest canyons in Europe. Today the canyon is a natural border between the Italian territories of Urzulei and Orgosolo. The canyon was formed when the Flumineddu river excavated the Jurassic limestone that formed when Sardinia was covered by the sea. Learn from your guide how the marine rocks are full of fossils from ammonites, fish and algae found in the area, and hopefully catch a glimpse of such an artifact. During the trek, discover the unique micro climate of the canyon that allowed the giant growth of the trees including the Phyllirea and the Old Yew. As you continue on the hike, the path becomes harder and harder, you may have to use your hands to proceed through the boulders. When it is no longer possible to go further, it’s time to head back.

Dorgali: Sardinian Filigree Workshop

6. Dorgali: Sardinian Filigree Workshop

Discover the magic of Sardinian filigree craftsmanship in a famous local goldsmith's workshop dating back to the first half of the 20th century. Watching the mastery of Mattia, a young son of art, you will discover traditional techniques and see a typical Sardinian jewel come to life. The experience will take place in his goldsmith's workshop in the centre of the village of Dorgali, in the province of Nuoro. You will begin the activity starting with the fusion of precious metals and then continue with all the other steps leading to the creation of the jewel: rolling, drawing, design and realisation. You will have the opportunity to try out the drawing techniques yourself and follow the creation of a grain. It will be a unique privilege that will put you in touch with the history and traditions of Sardinia also through Mattia's stories! The young master goldsmith Mattia inherited his passion from his father, who began studying at the age of 11 first in Piedmont in Valenza, the capital of high jewellery, and then returned to Sardinia and continued his studies in Cagliari with the highest exponents of Sardinian filigree, until in 1965 he opened his first workshop in Dorgali, his home town. Mattia took over in 1986 when, at the age of 6, he joined the family business as a helper to his father who was to be his teacher. He continued his studies at the Nuoro art academy until he too felt the need to open his own workshop about 8 years ago. Today Mattia is a filigree goldsmith who, while keeping faith with traditional techniques, makes artefacts influenced by modern art to please all tastes.

Very nice well organized trip. The beaches are great. A bit crowded, but others want to see them too. But you can lie down. The trip was something with rough seas. But the captain handled the waves well. Cala Luna could not be approached due to the weather. But that's the weather. The organizer can't help it. Snacks, coffee and soft drinks are available on the boat. To have seen my beer too. Crew very friendly. We would do the trip again.

It was super nice! Even though we were a mixed group, the guild made sure she spoke in both German and English, such that everybody was able to enjoy the experience and understand the explanations about various objects from the road. We even went to the Sorgenti su Gologone afterwards, which wasn't part of the trip, but the guid went out of her way to take us there to enjoy some nice spring water

The experience was more than worth it. The crew has been very kind, they spoke about every cave, mountain formation, beaches. I recommend it!

Great bays, beaches and a well-chosen route :) Anytime again - you have to see Cala Luna in particular!

A very nice and interesting excursion with a very knowledgeable guide!
