Full description
The tour begins at Altmarkt Dresden with information about the street called Prager Strasse nicknamed 'The Miracle of Dresden' for the part it played in the uprising of 1989 and the downfall of the socialist regime. The trail of those eventful and inspiring times is followed on this tour so you can learn about what occurred in those few weeks culminating in the fall of the Wall in Berlin.
This trail will lead you to the New Town Hall, the Church of the Holy Cross, the Dresden State Theatre House, Theatre Square, Zwinger, the Royal Cathedral, and the Church of Our Lady.
Public transport will then be taken to travel to the Stasi Memorial and Museum. The private tour will continue in this building and you will see the preserved rooms and prison. You will understand how a system functioned on fear, used complex psychological pressure and a system of punishment, rewards, and privileges to achieve its goals. You will also hear about how this repressive system was brought down. The tour culminates here. After this you can choose to explore Neustadt or the New Town of Dresden on your own, or return to the city center.
