Full description

Discover the dark and chilling history of Edinburgh with an experienced and energetic guide.

As you wind through the hidden wynds (alleys) off the Royal Mile, be entertained by this passionate and engaging storyteller who, dressed in full period costume, will regale you with dark tales.

Then, visit what is regarded as the most haunted graveyard in the world at “Greyfriars Kirkyard.” Finally, go deep underground and explore the Edinburgh Vaults beneath the streets.

Completed in 1788, the series of chambers were used to house taverns and as storage space for illicit material, including the bodies of people killed by serial killers Burke and Hare for their medical experiments. Journey through over 400 years of history and hear terrifying true tales of hangings, torture, murders, and witchcraft. Shiver at the weird noises and unexplained smells that make an appearance after dark.

Absolutely loved this ghost tour! My friends and I booked it for Halloween weekend for our 30th. Our tour guide had some issue and didn't show but the guide running the next tour was kind enough to let us join his tour even though he had to be a bit overwhelmed running it for double the people. But give "Dr Knox" his due, he didn't break character once and really brought the Burke and Hare tale to life. The only let down was that we skipped the graveyard section of the tour due to weather but not knocking off a star for that as safety comes first. Had a brilliant time.

Our tour was fabulous with James as our guide! He got to know a little about the group and was quick witted to add fun banter all night while telling the stories of Edinburgh. My teens enjoyed it just as much as I did. Lots of walking and somewhat dark places but that added to the atmosphere. Worth every penny or pound!!!!

First time we have done a ghost tour, and our 16 year old loved it. We thought it was very good. Our guide Nell was very charismatic and knowledgeable and happy to talk more and answer our questions at the end of the tour, so thanks for that ! Would have ben nice to have seen a bit more of the underground buildings, but understand this is limited by what the tour company has access to. Maybe slightly on the expensive side, considering some of the places (greyfriars) you can visit for free anyway, but of course you are paying for the time and knowledge of the guide of course, and labour costs arent cheap these days are they ?! Overall an enjoyable thing to do in Edinburgh. Would be interesting to do some of the other underground tours to compare them.
