  • See the Harry Potter Train cross the bridge at Glenfinnan
  • Soak up the atmosphere at historic Glencoe
  • Enjoy time at the port of Mallaig
Full description

Depart Edinburgh and travel northwest, stopping for a coffee and refreshments at a small highland village. Traveling onwards, reach Glencoe, known to many as the location for the Massacre of the MacDonald clan in 1692. Take photos of this beautiful area whilst you learn about its turbulent past. After Glencoe, travel further north to Fort William. Stop for refreshments and perhaps a bite to eat before journeying down the Road to the Isles. Learn about the history of the area as you approach Mallaig, where you will spend time enjoying lunch and its sea views. From Mallaig, travel eastwards to the main attraction, Glenfinnan. Arrive right on time to see the Jacobite Steam Train (also known as the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter Films) cross the bridge.

Not only will you enjoy this iconic view, but the site is also known as the setting for many Harry Potter scenes, including Loch Shiel. From Glenfinnan, travel southwards, stopping for refreshments at the small village of Pitlochry before returning to Edinburgh, where your tour ends.

Meeting point

You can find the Edinburgh departure and return point outside the green Ensign Ewart pub, at 521-523 Lawnmarket, Edinburgh, EH1 2PE. There is currently a shortage of taxis and private hire cabs in Edinburgh, which may make it harder to get to the departure point if you're thinking of using a taxi. Allow for more time to reach the departure point in the morning and look into public transport options as a backup.

David is an excellent guide. Lots of knowledge and a great sense of humour. Shug is an excellent driver. Both very friendly and keen to share stories. A long day but we saw so much. A good number of stops to grab a drink visit the loo and grab something to eat or a souvenir. Well worth it. Booked so my husband did not have to drive and he too was able to see the beautiful scenery. Not disappointed. Thank you David and Shug

The most amazing experience I ever had. Our guide James and our driver John were too good. Journey was so comfortable even though a bit long ( 12 hours) . Beautiful scenery, great weather. Unfortunately due to train strike we couldn’t see the steam train over the bridge . Overall enjoyed the high land experience.

Our tour guide Paul E (aka Daddy/Sexy/Santa Paul) - of in my own words, the Wise Owl Paul - along with driver Adam have given us the best day out possible. From such an early start this morning in Lawnmarket, Paul’s humour and enthusiasm shone through just the way you need it to at 7am on a Sunday. Adam got us to each stop with great efficiency & comfort, a role not to be underestimated. But Paul’s narration and information throughout the day was incredible. I hope these two are moved around the excursion timetable network so the next time we are in town, we do something different but with the same duo. Miss this trip and miss out. It’s that simple. It’s a jam packed day but embrace it. We’re chilling with a beer after getting off the bus at the final stop reviewing it all. The day is an entertainment overload, along with fascinating insights that you won’t get anywhere else. This is a must if in Edinburgh. Thank you both Paul & Adam, from Dan & Gillian - with the fluffy Owl mascot!
