Full description

Explore the Scottish Highlands on this bus day trip from Edinburgh. Take in classic sights like Stirling, Doune, and Inveraray castle. Admire natural landscapes like Loch Lubnaig, Glen Ogle, and the Arrochar Alps.

Hop aboard the spacious and airconditioned bus in Edinburgh and travel west, passing in the imposing show of Stirling Castle which rests high on its volcanic rock. Visit to Doune Castle which was featured in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".

Drive into the Highlands, past the lovely Loch Lubnaig, and up through impressive Glen Ogle. Stopping nearby at a place where you can purchase lunch with views of the surrounding natural scenery.

After lunch, drive further into the Highlands, stopping to view one of the most photographed castles in Scotland, Kilchurn Castle. Marvel at this relic which juts into Loch Awe and is stunningly framed by mountain peaks.

Venture to Inveraray, a quaint town built in the mid-18th century, on the shore of Loch Fyne. Have free time to explore the town and pick up some Highland souvenirs, or pay an optional visit to Inveraray Castle (closed Tuesdays & Wednesdays), the historic home of the Duke of Argyll. Begin your homeward journey, driving over the Arrochar Alps, an attractive range of mountains, with a brief pause near the top of the "Rest and Be Thankful Pass. Meeting point

You can find the Edinburgh departure and return point outside the green Ensign Ewart pub. There is currently a shortage of taxis and private hire cabs in Edinburgh, which may make it harder to get to the departure point if you're thinking of using a taxi. It is strongly recommended that you allow for more time to reach the departure point in the morning and look into public transport options as a backup.

This was an outstanding experience all the way around. Gary of Timberbush tours is an exceptionally wonderful guide and driver whose melodious voice and plethora of historical, cultural, geographic, and even geological information so very much enranched our experience getting to know the Highlands, and its lochs and castles. He also included as part of the tour some local music connected to history and kept the whole experience of just under 10 hours so very entertaining and worthwhile overall. We stopped in so many different places with various different landscapes as well as castles, drove by the Kelpies, stopped to see Highland cows and at various lakes, with lots of bathroom stops and places to grab snacks, a cute little place for lunch, and a tour of one of the castles. It was an amazing day! You will return feeling that you have been exposed to beautiful new vistas as well as a wealth of information about this beautiful country. A superb way to get to know Scotland!

We had a great day visiting the highlands, Stirling castle and Inveraray castle. Our tour guide Marty was great! Had great knowledge and history to tell us as well as a few jokes along the way. The Scottish music he played really enhanced the scenery. I would definitely recommend this tour.

A brief glimpse into the Highlands, passing some lovely lochs and castles. Pitty we couldn't visit the Duke of Argylle' castle - but Stirling castle was lovely too. The journey is quite long, one could easily add another hour ore two in order to have a bit more time at the stops at leisure. Lovely guide though, telling stories about Scotland's history, sampling Scottish songs and more modern music which entwined the old tales of some infamous and famous Scots. All in all, a very beautiful and interesting tour.
