Top sights in Naples
Snuggled into the coast of Campania with an urban area incorporating four million inhabitants, Naples is one of Europe's best-kept secrets.
A true jewel of the Mediterranean, a drive along the Amalfi Coast will dazzle you.
Naples' opera house's programme is diverse, with ballet shows taking place between April and June, too. Even if opera and ballet are not your thing, the house is lovely to behold.
If you are a classical history buff, you've come to the right place. See statues and artwork depicting the beginnings of Europe's rich heritage.
The unusual architecture of this church of "New Jesus" dates from the year 1470. It also faces one of Naples' main squares. The inside of the church is also worth a look for its frescoes!
Located on the peninsula of Megaride, the "Egg Castle" dates back to Roman times and has since seen it all: Norman, Saracen, Spanish, and French invaders. See it as part of a wider tour of Naples to understand its history.
Four days or so should cover the basics - take out whole days for trips outside of Naples, such as to Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Pretty walkable, especially in the city center. There is also a transit system serving the whole metropolitan area, including a funicular taking you up into the hills.
All year round, but go between October and March to avoid crowds and very warm weather.
In Italy, some stores and other attractions are closed at lunchtimes or in the afternoons, so double check before you set out somewhere.

What people are saying about Naples
We covered a lot of interesting sites, but didn’t feel too rushed. I liked that we had earpieces so even at the back of the crowd we could hear everything he was saying. The guide was engaging and entertaining, and did a good job of keeping certain topics “PG” for my younger children (phallic symbols and brothel). Fascinating and well organized. Would recommend.
I went at 9.30 in the morning and it was very quiet and eerie. Spiritual for sure! The audio guide can be a little bit tricky to follow but the secret is to just pick a zone, look at the numbers you want to visit and do it zone by zone. If you try to do every point in every zone then you will be there all week!
Our Driver Paulo was great and patient. Our tour guide Iliria in Pompeii was so knowledgeable and again so patient with our 3 year old. Definitely recommend this day trip to anyone and everyone! Wonderful memories made here!
Abbiamo fatto un tour privato con Paolo: non potevamo trovare guida migliore. Ci ha trasmesso la sua passione e ci ha fatto scoprire Pompei con una professionalità unica.
We loved the historical and archeological information provided by Riccardo! Not tourist information but a look into the history of Napoli and the people who live there.
