What people are saying about Vacherie
My whole family really enjoyed this tour. We were pick up at our hotel and driven to our tour of oak alley. Our driver was very friendly and shared great stories of New Orleans. Oak Alley plantation itself is beautiful and the staff were very knowledgeable about the history of the plantation and slavery. We left Oak Alley with a far better understanding of the tragedies slavery. I reccomend having lunch at the restaurant on the plantation grounds and visiting the gift shop as well. After the plantation tour we were bussed to the swamp tour location. The Swamp tour was absolutely amazing with a great tour guide. Our tour guide was a Louisiana man through and through, he knew his stuff about the bayou and was very funny. You're going to see some gators! After a full day of adventure, it was nice to sit back and be driven back to our hotel in a air conditioned van with a great driver. I definitely recommend the combo tour.
The driver Joe was excellent. The tour guide was mildly obnoxious and nonchalant of people of color on the bus as she spoke of Xavier University and history of New Orleans; such as the blues was a way for us to express the morning of the “junk” we were going through. She was also a distraction to the driver continuously getting up out of her seat for music for the ride back which at the time was not accessible because of the rural area we were in.
The driver Alton was great, he made the drive enjoyable and informational. I would have liked more time than the 2 hrs allotted. Further for the price asked comparable to experience I think it was a bit too high. If something else was added like a discount ice cream or meal that would've helped.
The self guided feature was great and assisted me along this independent journey. The bus driver lacked clarity on pick up time when he initially announced it, and the seats were too cramped. But overall, a great experience! I’d recommend eating a full meal in preparation for this 5hr excursion.
The tour was very efficient from start to finish. it was a great experience however I just wish we had been given an extra hour to get around all the exhibits. We only had an hour and a half to get around everything and with a queue for the main house tour we ended up missing other exhibits.
