Full description
Herculaneum, the first buried Vesuvian city to be discovered (1709), preserved under pyroclastic material from the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, is our destination today. A fascinating tour of this seaside retreat for the Roman elite with its grand and luxurious houses, baths and carbonized wood objects such as roofs, beds and doors. An easy lunch before our conquest of Vesuvius! Breathtaking views over the Gulf of Naples from the summit of the volcano will make this a day to remember. Pick up from your accommodation and transfer by bus to Herculaneum. With a guide you will visit the archaeological park. Transfer to a typical Vineyard for an easy lunch. In the early afternoon the visit will continue to approximately 1,000 m by road, and from here the walk to the crater. Return to your accommodation. Don’t forget: camera & comfortable shoes, identity card or copy of your passport. Green Pass / EU digital COVID certificate / Anti-COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

Trip with 2 adults & 2 kids under 10yrs. It was well organised, & a good, full day out. The guides were really interesting & full of local information. Lunch was nice but took a long time with young kids. The tour in Heraklanium was fascinating but we didn’t get to go into the gift shop and no time was allowed to explore independently, which became a bit of a drag with the kids who got a bit hot & bored at times. The mountain was good, very hot & steep obviously. Would recommend wearing closed in shoes as the ground is loose gravel and slippy, quite hard to walk on, like walking on sand. Spoiler alert, no lava in the mouth of the volcano, which my son was a bit disappointed about. However that being said we all thoroughly enjoyed the day and were really pleased to have experienced both.

The tour was very rushed and skipped some important places including the temple.
